SUMMARY: This is the townhall meeting, where everyone can come and show up, and wave accusations and shout to their little heart's content. They can also discuss skrull accusations in a calm manner if they really want.

[ And the large room where the City Council met was open for business. The walls were lined with seats, there were rows and rows of seats, nice lighting, and even a couple tankards of coffee open for business. Look, he wasn't a complete monster! There was security, but they remained silent and observed, instructed only to interfere if things were escalating to violence, and only then. Most of the Mayor's staff were already there before people started to arrive, and they were sitting in most of the seats reserved for the City council. There wasn't music, but it would be a good half hour to forty five minutes before the actual proceedings got started.

When they did, it was all about an open forum. ]

[oh, boy.

this is going to go really good, or really bad. Jaime just knows it. but he'd be a bad superhero if he didn't show up and at least try to make sure nobody else became an amputee to some degree.

civvies were out of the question; he's in the armor. it makes a statement. a statement like "please don't try any crazy bullshit during this meeting."

while his face was more along the lines of "pretty please?" with all the uncertain glances around the room.]

he takes steps back until he, too is against the wall. a glance over (and up; stupid tall people) at him.]

Mm? [eyebrow raise in your general direction] Good to know someone actually listened. I got long-winded.

[his mouth cracks a crooked smile, head tilting.] I think more people listen than would rather say they do at all. [a shrug.] And I guess there's just a lot of short attention spans out there.

[beat.

extending a hand.] Blue Beetle.

[clasping that hand in a quick but firm grip] Geddoe.

I only wish I had more to offer in terms of actually detecting or discovering these...creatures. It's the one thing my current tactic lacks.

No tech, huh? Or...[hands waggle:] magic or whatever?

My magic is limited. Nothing like what Zatanna or some of the other wizards use. [peer] ...you?

[waggling hands stop, held up in a kind of surrender gesture.] Yeah, I've...I have the means, but [one hand drops, the other goes behind his neck.] I'm still trying to figure out how to get what I need it to do. I've never had to scour around for shapeshifters before, so...

Did you speak with Stark at all, or examine the dead one he has?

Oh, yeah. [tapping his temple.] He's on speed-dial. I got some specs from him I'm working with, so hopefully I'll be able to come up with something pretty quick.

If not...I'll probably have to reach out to some other techy guys I know. Two heads better than one and all that.

Given the situation... [with a bob of his chin toward the room at large] ...I should think the sooner, the better.

[Ruka eventually makes her way to Jaime's section of the wall, offering over one of those thick paper cups of coffee; she has two, and the other is obviously for herself. Her smile doesn't quite bend her cheeks, but at least it's mostly sincere.]

If it's poisoned, it's not my fault.

[the smirk is invisible until he flashes a little tooth on one side. he takes it, making a show of scrutinizing it before taking a sip.]

If it is, it's Scarab's fault for not telling me just now. You're off the hook.

[her free hand joins the other, wrapped around her cup, taking her own slow sip. not the best quality, but decent enough for a time like this. her head tilts slightly, indicative towards the rest of the room.]

Skrulls aside, who do you think will be the trouble this time?

Hahhhh...[his exhale takes a dry, flat tone at the end, surveying at her prompting.]

Man, I dunno. We got some "usual suspects" and also a fat Nazi. And also a lot of people who hate the fat Nazi – present company included. I won't say this place is a powder keg, but...

The Major is here? [her head whips to look over her shoulder; clearly, he wasn't talking enough to be overheard everywhere.

And then, summing up everyone's feelings on the matter:] Ugh.

Yeah. [pretty much. grimacing:] I really don't know if this was a good idea, Ruka. I really don't.

Nobody seems to have any good ideas. But... [she shakes her head.] I'd almost rather a fight start here, then another week of people assaulting each other one-on-one.

Some people have gotten it broadcast on the Network, but how many do you suppose haven't?

[a wincing exhale.]

Not a fun thing to think about, but...yeah. Better to be able to put the crazies in time-out here, than see it on webcast.

[a beat.

unhappily:] I'm gonna need more forcefields.

You've got mine, if you need it. [she turns her head to the left-- checking for what she can no longer see in a periphery] It can travel.

I'll have to come up with some snappy, catchy way to call you into action. [a weak smirk.] You know, like how Avengers assemble or whatever.

[Sofia stops beside him. She's here too to help stop any trouble, and to try and prevent innocent people from getting carted off.]

I can't believe the Major, or anyone else thinks that this is meeting is a good idea; or that the Mayor would even set them meeting up like this.
