WHO: Cass Cain and The Goblin Formerly Known as Darkdevil
WHERE: Cass's secret apartment.
WHEN: Sunday night.
WARNINGS: reilly and cass being them, with a side of extra weird
SUMMARY: Reilly has just found out his beloved cousin was a Skrull. Or is that his beloved enemy? Oh, brainwashing, you're so confusing. Either way, this means he has to go cry in girlfriend's arms.
FORMAT: Paragraph to start, followed by whatever you like.
Reilly wasn't exactly sure how he'd gotten here. Teleportation, he assumed, but everything was a blur. Spotting May - no, the Skrull - attacking her family and friends. Then...
It wasn't her that had been blown to bits before his eyes. Before he could do anything to stop it, anything to save her, anything to hurt her... yes. That's what he was supposed to do. How could he have forgotten? These stupid aliens were skewing his priorities. That had to be it.
So why was it, when he thought that he'd lost Spider-Girl, he felt this panic and sadness? He should be relieved. She was his... his enemy. Someone who had gotten in the way of Norman Osborn's plans. And an annoying, stubborn brat besides. So why did he feel like this?
He ran a hand through his hair, nervous for reasons he couldn't explain. Then started banging on the door, loud and hard. Again and again. Cass had to open it! She had to.
Because he didn't know what to do. Or who else to turn to.

"Hey," she said with a small, sympathetic smile. She'd fought the May Skrull too, and expected him to be upset, but was taken back a bit by the sheer amount of conflicting emotions washing across his body. Asking if he was okay would be pointless so she just stepped to the side and motioned for him to enter. She was upset about May too, but he'd be the one needing to get some things off his chest.

As he walked in, his movements were off, like he couldn't figure out how to slump onto a couch on his own. Almost like a puppet with snapped strings. Exhaustion, of course. Who wouldn't be in his situation? He took a deep breath. When he spoke, his voice was shaking. "I don't... I don't know what do," he whispered finally, looking lost.

"She'll be okay."

"You're right, but I should have known. Sensed something. How could I fool some alien into letting me think that--" He shook his head and let loose a frustrated sound, not exactly sure who he was angrier with. The alien, or himself, for even caring about her at all?

If she didn't hold him back, he was to going to stand up and start pacing around the apartment floor. And perhaps the walls. This was a stupid idea. He shouldn't have come to her, of all people. She'd know he wasn't really panicking or grieving (except when he was). She'd see right through him. She always had.
"I... I should probably go. I mean, you've got to deal with Charlie, right? She's probably doing worse than I am, I mean, they were friends and she's the one who--" Who killed May. No. The Skrull. The Skrull. And why did he care, it wasn't like he wouldn't do the same, if he had to.

"...What's wrong?" she finally asked, not referring to the Skrull situation at all.

That was too loud, he was sure, as soon as heard himself say it. Too defensive.
"I'm fine," he said, more to himself than to her. "I'm better than fine." It was true. As long as he followed his orders, it was true. Focus on the mission. That was so much easier than trying to muddle through these conflicting emotions.
Now, if only he could force himself to stop shaking.

"I can't," he whispered, though there was no need. The words were written all over his face. He had to get out of here. Before he raised any more suspicions. "I... I'm sorry. I can't tell you."
Reilly looked her in the eyes, apologetic, as the familiar plume of smoke and flame began forming around him. Signaling his departure. "I wish I could."

"I don't know what to do," he whispered finally. "Now that she's... gone."

"We'll find her. She'll be okay."

He'd never forgive those aliens if they got to harm her first. Right? No, that couldn't be... he leaned into Cass's touch, still confused, but too weary to stop resisting from taking the comfort she offered.
