[ Once again, she feels a prick of guilt when she slips out of the apartment, leaving Nill all alone for the night. It's the last thing she needs, but Kate reminds herself she knew what she was getting into when she first donned this uniform. It has to be done. This is her duty.

With that, she focuses on the tasks ahead of her for tonight. Time to get to work. ]

[ Not bad, she thinks.

But she isn't sold. Not entirely. ]

Then you understand this is more than just catching the occasional purse snatcher or bank robber. This is a war you've enlisted yourself in.

[ Her frown grows slightly more pronounced. A war is interesting phrasing. ]

While I wouldn't call it a war, I'm fully aware it's not a game or something to be taken lightly.

[gevurah]

Why this, then? [ Her mask obscures her pointed look, so a gloved hand points to the bat emblazoned on her chest. ] Police, detective... why the Bat?

[ Her tone isn't accusatory or cold anymore, merely curious. ]

[futurebatwoman]

[ Beat. At least they seem to have moved on from accusations. ]

It has personal meaning.

[gevurah]

[ She turns her attention to the streets below. ]

Then I won't stop you.

[ "For now", maybe. A beat. ]

But I'm watching.

[futurebatwoman]

[ She bites back an angry retort to that then I won't stop you and just frowns. ]

You're all always watching.

Hasn't changed a thing I do yet.

[gevurah]

You're lucky you haven't made a mistake yet.

[futurebatwoman]

[ narrowed eyes. Batwoman. ]

Or I'm good at my job.

[gevurah]

We'll see. [ And if it happens? There will be so much displeasure. ]

[futurebatwoman]

[ People she is really glad don't know her secret identity - this lady right here. ]

Yes.

We will.

[gevurah]

[ Unmasking this Batwoman isn't high up on her list of priorities, but she does make a note; if she screws up big time, Kate will shut her down herself. Dick might be okay with her running around, but he's also got an eleven year-old acting as Robin. A Robin who apparently doesn't listen to orders. ]

It might have personal meaning to you, [ the Bat... everything they do ] but keep those feelings off the field or you'll find yourself compromised.

[futurebatwoman]

[ Her voice is slowly creeping more and more to glacial. She understood the constant questioning, and she'd tolerated it because she knew it was deserved. It doesn't mean she doesn't find it frustrating. And it's even more frustrating to not be able to tell if this is a warning the other Batwoman is giving or legitimate advice. ]

I know. [ beat ] Was that advice, or a warning, or both?

[gevurah]

A fact. [ Never mind Kate has blurred the personal lines in the past, but unforeseen circumstances had jostled her.

She ambles along the edge of the roof. She doesn't have much to say anymore, she might as well hightail it out of here. ]

[futurebatwoman]

I'll say thanks and leave it at that then. [ She nods at the other Batwoman and heads off in the opposite direction. That had been distinctly unsatisfying in some ways and a success in others. One of those mixed bags she seemed to consistently get when talking to other Bats. ]
