It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone that Zatanna's house is even bigger on the inside than it appears from the curb. It also shouldn't come as a shock that the backyard is the same; while it's normally rather large, she's put forth a great deal of energy into making it big enough to hold a waterpark. It also isn't visible from the front yard or around the privacy gate. If someone were to take an aerial photo, all they'd see is a moderate-sized empty yard full of shrubbery and a patio set. There's obviously no reason Mitch shouldn't attend in a speedo, right?

There are tables of snacks and drinks, some of which are alcoholic -- but don't worry, if anyone under 21 grabs one, it turns into ginger ale. As boasted in her text, there is, in fact, cake. Two different kinds (neither with nuts just in case someone has allergies), one vanilla and covered in strawberries and the other a fancy-looking, layered chocolate. Both were bought from a little hole-in-the-wall bakery several blocks from her home that she and Larsa have been frequenting.

Though it is her birthday, Zatanna is playing gracious hostess, while wearing a very fitting swimsuit and occasionally toting around a cat or two.

[Her turn to roll her eyes.] Then why did you ask?

I can't tell if that's a bad pick-up line, sarcasm, or maybe you really mean it. I'm hoping it's the latter. [In which case, she's having a difficult time responding to it and uncertain how it makes her feel. But if he looks at her, he'd notice that she appears genuinely touched by his words. And maybe a little upset? It's hard.]

[Oh, but he's too busy cuddling.]

I suppose daily might be a little clingy... [He says, while pretty much clinging.]

[She's a little stiff beside him, but not unreceptive. The side of her face is pressed against his shoulder.] When you aren't being cold. Whenever I think I've got you figured out, you do the opposite of what I expect.

Mm, I've a habit of that. Sorry. [And he sounds it.]

I'd accept that apology more readily if you attempted to be more honest with me, every now and then.

I can do that if you'll believe me when I say I'm being honest.

[Sliding a leg up on the sofa, she uses it to prop herself up. She inches closer and cranes her neck so she's close enough to press her lips against his.]

[It really doesn't take much to persuade James to return the favour, an arm looping about her as he leans into the kiss, careful and perhaps even considerate, rare as it may be. Might be trying to prove something.]

[Whenever he is being this sweet, she often will assume he's trying to prove something. It just would be nice if he'd say or do something because he wants to, not because he's trying to make a point (that will soon be lost). She pulls away, placing a soft peck on his cheek before curling up beside him again.] I'll hold you to that.

[Unfortunately, James pretty much always feels like he has something to prove with others, even if he doesn't give a shit what people think about him.]

When are people arriving?

[He's simultaneously a people-pleaser and someone who doesn't care if others are happy with him. He really just likes to impress people, basically.]

Three. So, a little while from now, assuming some will come early. You have me all to yourself until then.

I would suggest making the most of our time while we have it, since I'm leaving with the girls after the party. You might not see me until tomorrow evening -- maybe even later. [And you can't wait a day to see her, right?]

Ah, of course, girls night out that I wasn't invited to. I'm hurt.

[Which is total crap, he doesn't care if she goes out with her gurls, but y'know, he makes the best girl ever.]

Suppose I'll have to be doubly active right now, in that case, because I doubt you'll be in any fit state for the next few days.
