It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone that Zatanna's house is even bigger on the inside than it appears from the curb. It also shouldn't come as a shock that the backyard is the same; while it's normally rather large, she's put forth a great deal of energy into making it big enough to hold a waterpark. It also isn't visible from the front yard or around the privacy gate. If someone were to take an aerial photo, all they'd see is a moderate-sized empty yard full of shrubbery and a patio set. There's obviously no reason Mitch shouldn't attend in a speedo, right?

There are tables of snacks and drinks, some of which are alcoholic -- but don't worry, if anyone under 21 grabs one, it turns into ginger ale. As boasted in her text, there is, in fact, cake. Two different kinds (neither with nuts just in case someone has allergies), one vanilla and covered in strawberries and the other a fancy-looking, layered chocolate. Both were bought from a little hole-in-the-wall bakery several blocks from her home that she and Larsa have been frequenting.

Though it is her birthday, Zatanna is playing gracious hostess, while wearing a very fitting swimsuit and occasionally toting around a cat or two.

True enough. [She's usually able to reel it in when required, but there are times when that's really difficult or it's hard to see it.]

He's adopted; a few months ago, actually. He needed a legal guardian and since he asked... [A mild shrug. Just a kid! No sweat, right?] I don't expect you to scar him too badly.

[It's surprising and impressive that Zatanna has taken in a young boy, simply because it 'needed doing'. It makes Ziggy smile, a bit proudly. He can't say he'd be able to do the same.]

That's very sweet of you, taking him in. I'm sure you'll be a splendid guardian, and I promise not to ruin him. As I said, I got a suit so I'll not offend anyone by swimming naked.

I have the means, so I figured why not? He's probably the least troublesome kid ever and needs little supervision. I don't think I'd have been so generous if he were younger. I'm of the mind that kids are cute, so long as I can go home after watching them. [She's embarrassed about this, apparently. It isn't really modesty, just uncomfortableness.] I appreciate it. If it were any other time, I'd say go on and go skinny-dipping.

I'm quite impressed, regardless. I'm afraid I'm not really very good with children. I'm a dreadful influence. I like them, well enough, but could never provide the right environment for anyone to grow up in.
[He smiles broadly, refusing to dwell on the whyfores of the matter and whether or not he feels badly for it. ]

Maybe we can find a more private location for night swimming, sometime? Better suits my complexion, anyway.

The same, to be honest. My former apprentice was thirteen, but he was a worldly thirteen. [She doesn't push the subject further because it's not something she is entirely comfortable with nor one that she's given too much serious thought on.]

I think that could be arranged. As lovely as it is to hang around indoors during the summer, I do like to get out and about. A pool's a nice reprieve from the sofa.
