(it is absolutely not common that you end up in the future for your birthday. in fact, despite the discrepancy with his own age back home, cross was actually milking this for all it was worth. when he found out that people actually give you free stuff. a little charm here and a little flirting there, he's got so much free stuff that he doesn't know what to do with it.

what's more, at the moment he's just too excited to spend his birthday not wondering if someone at a party is going to try and kill him. so, throwing caution to the wind, just let the party begin! he's in various locations doing various things.)

[Hank just shrugs.]

Well it seemed like you were trying to subtly make a point there.

[ioudas]

Are we going to go or are we going to have an argument about the representation of the cross?

[professorlionface]

If you're going to stop poking fun at our calling it an X-Jet.

[He hails a cab.] We'll have to get to the Bronx first if we're taking it.

[ioudas]

By all means, after you. This is your town, after all. (more like he's giddy to go FLYING in the air.)

[professorlionface]

[He climbs into the back of the cab, but he kind of takes up a lot of it with his size.]

You alright with splitting the fare?

[ioudas]

(oh hank, you have no idea who you're dealing with.)

Sure, why not?

[professorlionface]

Well, it's only reasonable!

[The trip's about forty-five minutes in traffic, but soon enough they're in front of the Institute and the driver's telling them their fare.]

[ioudas]

(oh, wow, it's an impressive place on its own. cross has always loved institutes for learning, despite the fact that he never was in the socioeconomic class to attend.)

What is this place?

[professorlionface]

[What a shame, they could've given him a scholarship!] This is the Xavier Institute, the school I teach at, specifically, though not exclusively, catered to imPorts. I also happen to live in our dormitories, and have a lab in the subbasement.

[He digs into his wallet to pay the cabbie as he steps out.] Your share should be $18 after the tip.

[ioudas]

(he hands Hank a creditcard (that doesn't have his name on it) before he wanders into the Institute as if he's mystified by the place. frankly, this place would be a lot more interesting than his actual party.)

A lab, you say?

[professorlionface]

[He frowns at the card, but settles their bill and hands it back once he's caught up with Cross. He's pretty spry for his size.]

Fully equipped! And then some...considering all the instruments we designed ourselves...

[ioudas]

Oh, I see.

(he stands outside, like a kid trying to get into a candy store.)

Can... I see it?

[professorlionface]

[Hank keeps walking to the door, stopping only when he isn't sure whether Cross is following.]

Well, if we get to the lab, I'd be surprised if we managed to leave within a few hours. So you can see that now, or we can get in the jet.

[ioudas]

.... We can do both. (they aren't going to do both. a lab for cross is a like being in a liquor store with women on each arm.)

[professorlionface]

[And Hank showing off his lab is like a kid showing a friend all his favorite toys. There is no way it would be a quick tour.]

We'll worry about the lab later, I'm too hungry to wait.

[ioudas]

(d-don't separate him from this, he loves this so much.)

As long as there's alcohol served, I suppose.

[professorlionface]

[One day, Cross. One day you will get your full tour.]

That shouldn't be difficult to arrange.

[ioudas]

It's been so long that I've been in an actual lab.

(he whispers, mostly to himself, rather than to Hank. His fingers trail on everything, as if trying to touch everything to remind himself of what it feels like.)

Great, lets go!

[professorlionface]

[He sees you talking to yourself, Cross. He ignores it.

Instead he takes him over to the hangar, where a jet that looks like this sits, only this one is smaller.]

So, what do you think?

[ioudas]

(hank, hank, you're a lion santa (the best kind of santa tbh) before cross looks at it.)

(he's speechless, which means that it's a good thing.)

[professorlionface]

[And I even have this icon. He lowers the ramp and climbs on in.]

Well, come on then, don't just stand there gawking. Let's get this thing in the air!

[ioudas]

Right, you're going to go off a runway... (which he really doesn't see) and then just- (go up in the air.)

Right.

Lets.

Go.

[professorlionface]

[He plops himself down in the pilot's seat and starts fiddling with the panels, running through the takeoff checks.]

Oh just you wait, VTOL is always an adventure the first time you experience it!

Do strap yourself in.

[ioudas]

I am sure putting this out there but, they said the same thing about opium.

(this is the only time that cross would ever do something as lame as regarding his own safety.)

[professorlionface]

I'm...sure they must have.

[He flips two switches and the ceiling above them opens up. The engine hums with power, waiting for him to let it show them what it's got. Once they're clear, he pulls back on the wheel, and the jet begins its ascent from the hangar floor.]
