There was nothing quite like a night on the town. The bright lights on the streets so far below, the wind through her hair as she swung between buildings, the sounds of late-night-early-morning traffic , and the ocassional girly screams of would-be muggers having their arms twisted by a chick in a black and purple cape.

Yes, this was the life. One of them, anyway.

That has to be it.

[Huntress pulls out her grappling gun, casting one last disappointed glance at the useless pile of drug dealers.]

And how. Let's leave the professionals to their work. I don't know about you, but I could use some coffee right about now.

[ichoosefight]

It's like you read my mind.

[ She follows suit, grappling to the roof of taller of the two buildings on either side of them. ]

[amiga]

[She joins Batgirl on the roof a moment later and re-holsters the gun. With the snap of gloved fingers, two travel cups of coffee appear in either hand.]

You know, we make a pretty decent team.

[It takes her a second to realize what she's said. After all, Huntress usually operates alone. Behind her mask, her expression is slightly sheepish.]

I mean, that is to say... cheers.

[ She still feels like beaming, although there's a moment where she has to organize the two different Huntresses in her head. A few years ago she was on the other end of that exchange. A few years ago she was also trying to convince Huntress not to kill her dad. It's a pretty big shift.

But combined with the coffee she thinks she can embrace the change. ]

But you know, we do make a pretty good team.

[amiga]

It's something to think on. [She pauses, takes a sip of her coffee.] And drink on.

[This is different for her. She hasn't had a partner since PG, and even then it was never a regular deal. Even her team ups with Robin were few and far between and left quite a bit to be desired. She'd always worked alone, but it was never from desire. It was all due to necessity. Teaming up with Batgirl didn't have to be an everyday thing, but damn it if it wasn't nice to know she could count on her as back up.]

How long have you been doing this anyway?

[ichoosefight]

Four years now, going on five. Not as long as some of the others. [ But then most of the boys have been doing this since they were 10, and Steph just dealt with her parents however she could until 15.

She sips her drink idly. And hey, that's some pretty decent coffee, way to go porter. ]

[amiga]

The old man liked to start them young.

[Helena sighs, almost wistfully. Sure, she'd had training from Bruce and Selina, but it wasn't like what Dick had had. She wasn't meant for the world of capes and costumes. She was never meant to become the Huntress, not while Batman and Robin were around.]

I didn't start officially until I was seventeen. And even then, he was very upset by my decision.

Yeah, I know that feeling. I can't decide if he hates girls, or he just hates anyone he doesn't meet at that age.

[amiga]

Alas, he cannot use that excuse with me, since he witnessed my birth and all.

[ichoosefight]

Maybe that's why. You were too young and I was too old.

[amiga]

That would explain a lot while allowing him to not hate women.

[ichoosefight]

You're right, that's going way too easy on him. He's probably just a raging sexist. [ She takes another sip of her coffee and grins wryly. ]

Who made him boss anyway?

[amiga]

Call it daughterly devotion, perhaps.

[She smirks, sipping her coffee thoughtfully.]

In my world, I'd say my mother was actually the boss of him. But I can't speak to yours.

[ichoosefight]

He definitely designated himself king of the roost in my world. And yeah, he's a good judge of character when you really get down to it, [ she waves the mug around as though to emphasize her point, ] but he doesn't always have to be such a jerk about it, you know?

[amiga]

My advice is take everything he says with a grain of salt. He may be the world's greatest detective, but he's still a man. He makes mistakes, even simple ones like how to treat people respectfully.

I wish someone would have told me that two years ago. It would have saved me a lot of embarrassment. [ Yes, embarrassment. That's what that was. ]
