WHERE: Around the City

SUMMARY: Jade's out enjoying the city after school.
FORMAT: Brackets I guess

[She drops off her books and stuff at home and spends a little time making a snack and eating. If any of the others are around she's more than happy to sit and chat with them. Or help them with their homework. Otherwise she's off to do her own thing. Like taking care of her garden or her pets. It's a daily thing for her to do both. When she's at home she's often out in her greenhouse.]

[She visits the park quite often. She usually picks a nice quiet place near the lake and just watches people and animals. Occasionally chatting it up with anyone around that wants to talk. Sometimes she can't help herself and ends up chasing after a squirrel. When that happens it's time to move on.]

[There's a local coffee shop she's become fond of. She's not a huge coffee drinker but their tea is really good. So she'll often curl up on one of the couches with a book or magazine and enjoy her tea.]

[Nearby that coffee shop is a little bookstore. It's probably the most amazing place Jade has ever seen. The books are practically piled to the ceiling and she can spend hours just rummaging through the stacks. It's probably where she's spends most of her time when out.]

[ she closes the book and studies the cover for a long moment before tucking it under her arm with the others. ] I suppose it's worth a shot.

You mentioned fantasy books before, what are a few that you enjoy?

[Jade frowns and looks around.] Problem is, most of the fantasy books I enjoy can't be found. I'm sure there's some around that are very similar but they're not quite the same.

Can't be found? [ no wait, this is a phenomenon she's encountered. it happened to twilight, after all. ]

Ah, you mean because their heroes have been present here...or perhaps still are.

[Jade ears twitch as she gives Kanaya a curious look.]

Is that what causes it? Huh...

It became clear as the cause after I lost certain books I particularly favored. The disappearance has unfortunately sustained beyond the individual's exit from this universe.

[ here's to you, mr. cullen. ]

[Frowning. Well that certainly explains why she can't find any of the books she was hoping to find.]

That sucks. I guess if I find any interesting fantasy books that are something similar to the ones that have gone missing I'll let you know.

Very well, I suppose I'll expect it, should you learn anything.

[ she pauses to readjust her books. ] So, how have things been for you otherwise? You must have had a fair amount of time to settle by now.

Of course!

[She gives a little shrug.] Good I guess. A little stressful but having everyone else around has helped. And my greenhouse is doing amazing.

That's good to know, I'm glad you're enjoying it! [ but she screws up her mouth a bit in uncertainty. ] What seems to be the source of this stress? The situation in general?

[She nods.] Yeah. I mean the normal daily stuff is fine and doesn't bother me any. But then the weird things happen and they get a little stressful. Plus I'm still not quite used to how busy the city is.

It can be odd to experience, usually. I suppose I simply feel find that it usually doesn't outweigh the other aspects of life here that are better than the alternative.

That's a good way to look at it. I'm sure about a little more time here I won't be too bothered by everything. But right now it's still new and sometimes overwhelming.

Of course, it will only take some time. And you have more friends here, anyway. Nothing against John or Dave, but I would imagine it could be a bit much to spend so long with only the two of them.

Oh! But it wasn't just to the two of them. Nanasprite and Jaspersprite was there too. And all our consorts. There was always plenty of others around.

[She pauses, thinking for a moment.] Although I guess it was just the two of them that I could really talk to... Although conversations were often limited. [Because some things boys just don't want to or need to know about.]

Jaspers was the cat Rose had, wasn't it? I'm unfamiliar with Nanasprite, however.

[ that didn't seem to be the most important thing there, though. ] Were matters strained between you three?

Yup. And Nannasprite is the sprite that John prototyped from his Nanna's ashes. And some weird clown doll.

[She shakes her head.] Not really. You just know how boys are, they don't like talking about certain things.

[ she doesn't completely know what a nanna is, but she will at least try to roll with it, and maybe look it up on google when she gets home. she hopes jade isn't paying attention to the small note she writes about it. ]

Certain things, or everything? I've certainly encountered that problem more often with Dave than John. Though, of course, there are topics I'd prefer not to discuss with them, either.

[Jade's too busy searching for another book as they talk. She's nearly found all that belong to this series.]

Pretty much if it isn't in their interest I don't really talk about it. Not that I don't like a lot of things they like but it kind of got boring after a while. And I still have two more years of that to look forward to when I get back.

[ kanaya puts the note away in her purse and follows behind jade as she looks, wearing a bit of a frown. ]

Well, if it's something you're not certain the others would be interested in, there's always me. I would certainly be willing to listen to whatever falls within your interest.

Could you use an extra pair of eyes?

[Jade smiles over at Kanaya and nods.] I know! Here I have you and Rose if I need to talk about something I know the boys wouldn't be interested in. Well, actually I have a lot more people to talk to here than back on the ship.

[She turns back to the book shelf as she plucks a book off of it.] Nope! Found it. [The book floats over and joins her stack which she looks at with a small laugh.] I think that's enough books for now.

It is very likely time to be done with this, yes.

[ and so, she shuffles her own stack and moves on toward the register. ] But with this expansion of options, I think you should more frequently utilize them. We can idly banter about the state of affairs in the life of Jade Harley.

Do you have plans for after you're finished here?

[Jade grabs her stack out of the air and follows after Kanaya.] Of course!

[She shakes her head.] No, I don't have any plans after this. Although I will need to make a quick trip back home to drop these off if you wanted to do something.

[ she moves to the side after paying for her books, waiting for jade to finish. ]

Well, we could always stay there as well. Maybe tend to the garden as we chat.

[She makes her payment before nodding at Kanaya.]

That sounds good! I usually just end up talking to the plants when I'm out there since no one else seems to keen on gardening.

Well, they don't know what they're missing. It's a healthy activity, and the weather's certainly encouraging to it, and the opportunity to spend time with one of my most cherished friends is one I wouldn't think to pass up.

So, more for me.
