i learn resistance
WHO: BATWOMAN and YOU
WHERE: various places in the City. Rooftops, alleyways, etc.!
WHEN: backdated from the night of the 7th till the 11th
WARNINGS: violence and blood
SUMMARY: redhead bat doing her thing again. Running into people. Maybe helping civilians. Who knows? FIESTA PART II.
FORMAT: tagger's choice
[ It's not odd in that time most imPorts had either spent as a child or in Venezuela, crime had risen in the City to take advantage of the eerie silence from the heroes. What is odd tonight is as Kate's gaze falls upon the City at her vantage point, an unsettling silence is all she feels from streets. From the murky corners of the alleyways to the incredulous harbors, she knows it's all wrong.
No, it's--
She can't afford to lose her focus now. She never does when she's in uniform, leaving the troubles and other burdening thoughts behind at the apartment until she's returned. But somehow, she hasn't managed to shake it off when she's sitting atop of a high-rise building all by her lonesome.
Well, there's always work to be done. The dead air is shattered by the distant police sirens, as if timed to remind her of that fact. Without a moment's hesitation she dives off the side of the building, a blur of red and black that eventually sinks into the dark to get to work. ]

it's perfect :3
giving them one final look over his shoulder, he decides to put the device away into jacket pocket for safe keeping and starts to walk down the street again, albeit at an increased pace than before. once they see him begin to move away, two of hooded men disappear into the alleyway and the remaining man runs after john.
when the man reaches him, he taps john on the shoulder and turns him around with one large hand, flashing the doctor a toothy grin from underneath his hood. it's a smile that doesn't look entirely friendly and sends john's senses into overdrive. ]
Excuse me, do you have the time?

john risks a glance at them. there goes that idea, he thinks to himself, swinging his head back to look at the man gripping him by his shoulder. this is happening far quicker than he expected and he wets his lips. americans don't like to beat around the bush, he guesses. ]
... Between the three of you, no one thought to bring a watch? [ he quips regardless of the direness of the situation. ] Not very organized, are you?

unless he's got superpowers.
there's a quick flash of silver. one of the hooded men has pulled out a knife. he gestures for john to comply quietly and nobody gets hurt. the gang's first major mistake.
if john glances past them, he might see a trail of red shift in the shadows. ]

when the light from above dances menacingly on his knife, john feels the hairs on the back of his neck prickle and his eyes drawn to the weapon. well, this is definitely not good. he misses the weight of his gun in his hand and it's noticeable how he holds himself; john doesn't feel like he's in control. ]
Really, I don't have anythi— [ he's unable to finish that sentence. one of the men, impatient with john, grabs a fistful of his collar and yanks him backwards. as john stumbles and gargles, he swears he sees something moving around in the darkness. ]

before she emerges from the dark, something small strikes john's captor on the side of the head. blood trickles down the side of his head and he's lost his grip and focus on john. they all have, now directing their attention to wherever that shot came from.
and she steps out, a sharp grin across her features. ]
Gentlemen.

she goes for the second man nearest to her. he swipes at her with the knife, missing when again, she dodges this assault. when he makes for her face directly, she grabs onto his wrist. for a few seconds they struggle, kate pushing the knife as far back from her face as possible and then she slams the heel of her boot against the assailant's knee. there's an ugly crack and he howls, falling back. ]

acting on instinct, john drops down and seizes the wrist of the man holding the knife, intending to get it away from him. but unlike his companion, there's still some fight left in him and he swipes blindly up at the doctor, catching him across the cheek. ]

she hauls the man back, placing him in a choke hold. ]
I don't think so. [ her voice soft but dangerously low. she cries out when she feels the knife dig into her leg. bastard. though he slips from her weakened grasp, he's still close enough for her to get a direct hit. she hits him squarely in the jaw and down he goes. ]

Christ. [ he exclaims breathlessly. when had he become this slow? he is at her side in a moment, stepping over the man and wiping at his cheek with the sleeve of his coat. ] Are you all right?
no subject
she focuses on john, then. ]
Fine. [ she replies so casually, it's like another day in the life for her. ] You're hurt. I can call an ambulance.

No. [ her tone is firm, but not harsh.
then she directs her attention to the unconscious thug. ] He should still be out by the time police get here.
[ it's too open an area they're in, and if she goes now, she'll catch the one who ran off. ]
no subject
I can't change your mind? [ then, the thought occurs to him. ] I'm a doctor, you know. I could patch you up, if you want to avoid any... nevermind.
[ he can already see her attention is fixed on the one who got away. ]
no subject
she pivots on her heel, cape swishing lightly behind her as she walks away. ]
Take care then, Doctor. I'd also prefer if I were kept out of the police's hairs.
[ rather, she prefers to not have them sticking their noses into her business. ]

Don't think about it.
