if the elephants have past lives
WHO: GIL and YOU
WHERE: anywhere! The park, a grocery store, the streets, around his workplace, etc.
WHEN: between 12/10 and 12/13
WARNINGS: references to Thunderhungerdome events
SUMMARY: In spite of everything that's happened, Gil has to try and carry on with City life.
FORMAT: starting with quick but tagger's choice!
[ If there's anything Gil is always quick to buy, no matter how stingy he can be with money, it's cigarettes and a brand new lighter. He's not too fond of those cheap ones from the corner stores, even if they do work in a pinch. But so do matches. (The odd stare every now and then doesn't both him when he's craving a long drag of nicotine. While he's well are of the laws against public smoking, when he really needs (re: wants) a cigarette, he can't help himself. When he's working, he avoids it as long as he can before he lights one outside the building.
Attempting to quit doesn't cross his mind. There's a lot on it.
He's even lost count of how long it's been since that night in the stadium. There are fleeting moments it feels like it was a decade ago, buried under the other painful events that seemed to consistently plague his life-- and then the vivid moments like it was just yesterday and his senses are overloaded with the smell of copper and screaming ringing in his ears.
It's the brief seconds of remembering Lenalee and Damian's bodies that jostles him out of his daze and he needs to stop and catch his breath. ]

[ Despite the faintly mocking tone he takes, his eyes are cool and expressionless. ]
You trust the authorities with the thing that killed you and made you kill others?
You have more faith in them than I could imagine. Enjoy that, I suppose.
no subject
It's not about faith! If Habit's been detained by the authorities here, then neither you nor I have that right to break those laws!

[ Archer's voice is blunt and bitter. ]
Are you aren't the only one...and yet still you speak of not having the right? Are you truly that pathetic?
[ For the first time, an edge of true frustration creeps into his voice. ]

What did you say? [ His empty hand curls into a tight fist. ] What are you suggesting, that we break into a prison and do whatever we want with him? It doesn't work that way in this world! [ Of course, it didn't in his either. ]
no subject
Yes, something like that is just what I'm suggesting. You think it doesn't work that way in this world, but it's the only way it does work, you know.

That's troubling, isn't it? This is the natural thing to do with someone who threatens so many--kill them, and remove their ability to hurt others. I'm pretty used to that.
[ Which is probably not something he should admit right there, is it? But the subject of HABIT bypasses what sense he has. ]
But here it's different. Well, letting him sit in a cell hatching plots to escape is no solution either. That's all I know for sure.

But in the back of his head, there's a small voice that tells him this idea is tempting. Why not kill the monster that did this to him in the first place? What's holding him back? ]
No. [ He mutters more to himself than Archer. ] I won't do something as stupid as that.
[ Because he's not strong enough. He's too kindhearted. He doesn't want any more blood on his hands. Various reasons he's not sold on.
He takes a few steps back. ] ... I'm done here.

[ And Archer's tone is even once more. ]
I'll count you out if I do find a way to deal with this monster. That's if you don't change your mind. If you do, let me know.
[ Without a further word, he turns to walk away. ]
