Joey nodded in response as he headed it over to the delighted, pretty girl. He wasn't sure what she'd meant by the random gestures, but he got the overall gist of 'ohmygod fur coat.' He tried signing, because you never could tell who might know. "Try it own! See how it looks."

He mimed shrugging into a coat for good measure.

Joey laughs and nods enthusiastically. The coat really does look well on her, but it's how charmingly excited that she is that really makes it work. He is a firm believer that happiness is the best accessory.

He points over to a nearby mirror. "You need to see this for yourself. Do the collar up like Mae West." He demonstrates, pulling his own jab key's collar up and holding it close to his neck, the way a 1940s femme fatale would show off a really lush fur coat.

He considers this as he carefully straightens out his jacket. It's a good coat, and fur goes with just about any color dress. But he doesn't have to look at the price to know that it's going to be expensive.

Joey shrugs, but he's still staring at the coat, with his head tilted to one side. He doesn't want to be the one to discourage the purchase. "Would you have a chance to wear it?"

So she does know some sign language, that's always exciting. It simplifies things. "I'm Joe, by the way."

He gives her a little smile. It's probably the best decision, but it's always disappointing when perfection's just out of your reach. "You know, I've seen some good secondhand shops. I bet you could find an awesome vintage coat that would look better. Classic styles are classic for a reason."

He notices the delay and will go more slowly, try not to use obscure signs when something more basic will do. "Yes. You never know, you could get lucky. Plus, you won't have to worry about anyone else having it, and you can turn it into a good party story. Say that it was the only thing your great-aunt Hilda took with her off the Titanic."

"A great aunt Cecily, then. The name isn't the important part of the story," Joey chided gently. He still feels awful about having dissuaded her from buying the coat and wants to somehow make it up to her. "Do you want to go check out some thrift shops with me now?"

There's no need for her to feel guilty. Joe is terribly excited to have stumbled upon someone who can read sign, and he thinks today is going to be a Good Day.

"You never did tell me your name. I'm going to call you Blondie," he signs before offering her his arm.
