I SWEAR I'LL ACTUALLY RESPOND THIS TIME
(It would be a lie to say she was here more for Ned than the food, but she was always a good liar.)
She arrives with a flourish, arms outstretched.] Lay that new menu on me!
YOU BETTER OR I'LL CUT YOU
He's all but shoving the menu at her and hovering, waiting to gauge her reaction.]
THAT + THE ICON YOU ASSHOLE
Meanwhile, I could use a cuppa.

may 2nd, afternoon
He'd spent three months in NOHoPE and another one with Frank, kept under lock and key by the madman, interacting with others only sporadically. A month in an abandoned warehouse eating MRE's and listening to the sounds of rodents scurrying inside the walls. A month realizing just how ridiculous his life had become. A month to really snap out of his depression.
He was appalled it had taken him that long.
Whatever had poisoned his mind, whatever dark thoughts and urges he'd had that had caused him to break were now purged from his system and he'd emerged a new man. Or maybe just an old man with a new outlook. His old outlook. He'd atone for his crimes, he'd turn himself in again. But first, he really needed something to eat.
So he arrived at the Pie Hole, a place he'd only ever heard talk of before, and settled down in an empty booth. His clothes were unwashed and ill-fitting, hand-me-downs that Frank had scrounged up from God only knew where, and he looked like he could use a shower and a good night of sleep. Later, perhaps, after he'd had a coffee and a chance to relax for five minutes.

Ned doesn't wait for an order, instead approaching Matt with a cup of coffee. He clears his throat just in case he hadn't heard his footsteps, though he's pretty sure he had anyway. Ned always did play it safe.
"Hey there," he greets gently, setting the cup down in front of Matt and sliding into the seat opposite him.
no subject
"You're Ned, right? You sound like Ned." He was trying to be smart, but despite the attempt at amusement, he still looked exhausted and just plain worn out.

open;
Connor stared at the menu. He is totally trying to decide what to try first.]

Hello, good morning, and welcome... to the Pie Hole. Coffee? [You may not have noticed but he has a cup and saucer he's placing down in front of you before you say yes, coffee carafe held at the ready.]
no subject
Connor looked up from the menu and tried his best to reflect that enthusiasm, but he's a mild person, so Ned gets a small smile instead.]
Thanks. Ah, do you have any tea instead?

Connor Hawke?
[ She thinks it's him, at any rate - at least from the pictures she's seen up in Kyle's quarters. ]

Maybe there's another Connor Hawke, because he doesn't have a lot of ladies with red skin in his life.]

[ The first time Brian goes to the Pie Hole he’s hunting his brother down, chasing after his circulatory system like a bloodhound. Every time afterwards, it’s just because he’s fat. This is one of those subsequent times.
ANYWAY. He's just walked in and about to cross over to the bar area, all innocence, when he sees what is possibly the most grisly crime scene he has ever witnessed. Including his own! It's astounding by virtue of number alone, and there don't appear to be any signs of the carnage stopping soon.
All the victims are pies. ]
WHOEVER THE HELL ELSE
[ There are numerous other occasions when he'll be there, though! And each time he will be perfectly amiable, with that surface charm he has, and open to conversation. Shallow conversation, mostly. It pays not to be too memorable; once people start remembering the content of what comes out of your mouth, instead of the tone, they start to pick up on inconsistencies, and the food isn't that great. ]

At some point, she's started feeling guilty, so she's starting to think she might have to help Ned when he wobbles out of the kitchen with the latest (and possibly the last, if only because her budget really can't afford this sort of indulgence much longer).
Ned seems considerably less keen on the idea, though. When she tries a little harder to take the tray from him, his tiredness and her overenthusiasm to be of assistance combine to send the pies hurtling through the air, straight at Yako and any hapless passers-by. Her face and her top half end up with an unsightly streak of raspberry and rhubarb gore, and she's still trying to blink it out of her eyes before she can take stock of any other casualties. ]
no subject
Hey, you need any--
[ The oncoming volley of baked goods renders his offer meaningless, and he cuts himself off while he springs into action. A secondary bonus to minimal information and maximum smalltalk is that it keeps expectations vague, and the speed with which he moves -- something that might be uncharacteristic if he'd laid on the dorkiness a little heavier -- isn't too out of place. He's only got two hands, and the aerodynamics are probably off, but at this point he's mostly working on autopilot. And he can catch one pie, right?
As it turns out, yes, he can! He can also attempt to grab another and end up putting half a fist through it, spattering his hand, arm, and chest with crimson filling! It's a good thing he wasn't particularly attached to this T-shirt. ]
--help.
[ The contents of the pie dish he holds in his left hand wobble, then flip out of the tin and splatter on the floor. A silent WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP trombone plays. ]

OPEN; may 20th
Throughout the day, she occasionally leaves the Pie Hole and will sometimes come back with a latte in hand or a treat for Digby. Sometimes she stands for a long time while speaking passionately about her plans and other times it's a low whisper, hoping to keep the best parts of this weekend a secret. Mostly, she's just enjoying the day and relaxing either at the counter or booth near the window. The sun's too nice to avoid.]

Or that she could see a familiar face — or even a friendly one. Maybe then she wouldn't feel so awkward and on edge. In the meantime, though, she'll shove a Key Lime into her face, flipping through the pages of something that (judging by the cover) seemed to star a lady with a gigantic sword. ]
