WARNINGS: Kenzi's mouth? Gil freaking out over very big cats?
SUMMARY: Kenzi told Gil she was going to take him to the zoo...so they're going.
FORMAT: Quick

[It's nine in the morning and Kenzi...is running a little late. She gets up early enough, early for her anyway, and gets ready to go. Dresses in a light dress and somewhat sensible, as Kenzi doesn't really do a shoe below a three inch heel, shoes; she's even wearing sunglasses and some sunhat that goes along with her dress like Gil said she should. Her bag has sunscreen, which she's already slathered on, and some water in it for the day. One last check to make sure she had everything that would be needed and she's out the door.

The trip doesn't take long but traffic and everything else keeps her.

At the entrance she catches sight of Gil quickly enough, he really does stand out in a crowd, and rushes over.]

Sorry I'm a little late.

Some do, yeah. Some don't bother with the show and just look at the animals. Or they're, y'know, smart enough to sit far enough back.

I should have read the pamphlets before we sat down in that part of the arena.

[ And does he regret this very much.

He stands up to shake the coat and little beads of water drip to the ground. After a minute of doing this, he sets it down on the side as well. He does't tuck his shirt back in, not wanting to stick something that cold and damp back inside his pants. ]

Probably. But it just said seal show, it didn't mention no whale. [Because if it'd said anything about the whale being brought out she would have been sure they sat further away.]

But what's done is done.

[A pause before she simply has to bring up the lions.] So...what was up with you and the lions? Was there like some Chain that was a lion that really freaked you out back home or something?

[ His movements go stiff when she brings up the lions and his face tomato red. ]

... Nothing. Nothing at all.

[She raises a brow but decides not to push it for now.]

If you say so.

[ He fights the blood rushing to his cheeks, embarrassed she saw such a reaction from him. Of all the things it had to have been, it was a cats. Big cats. ]

Although... [ Now that she mentions it, his memory draws back to Cheshire and Alice's memory. The first time he had encountered Jack Vessalius -- or what he had believed was his first at the time. Realizing they've known each other before is still unsettling. ] There was a Chain... not like those lions... but it was a cat. Cheshire.

[She blinks up at him, tilting her head as her brows furrow a bit.] Like the cat from Alice in Wonderland?

[ Now it's his turn to frown. ]

Alice in Wonderland...?

[ He's never heard of it and chances are it doesn't exist in his universe, inspired by the author's works. ]

Yeah, it's a book but there's also a movie about this little girl that, like, follows a white rabbit into this other world. There she meets a lot of strange creatures like the Cheshire Cat and Mad Hatter and stuff like that. She pisses off the Queen of Hearts and almost gets her head cut off. [That's the gist of it...it's been a while since she's seen the movie.]

Actually I think there's, like, a lot of movies based on the book.

[ His eyes widen, heart pounding a little harder and faster as Kenzi lists off the names, names he recognizes from his world, but explains they're all from some story. ]

Did you say Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts?

[Kenzi raises a brow.] Yeah. Why?

[ The Queen of Hearts, Demios, the Head Hunter. A wave of nausea hits him as he struggles to make sense of it. It can't be a coincidence, as much as he would like to write it off as such. ]

Those names are... they can't be.

[Okay, now he's starting to worry her.] Oh crap, did I just, like, destroy your world or something? [How does that even work with fictional characters? She knows some don't seem to care...like Peter.]

What?! [ As he has no idea what she's talking about. ] This is all from a book, you said?

Yeah, but I've never read the book. Just seen one of the movies. It's really trippy.

But either way, they're from a story. Those names and even the Head Hunter... those aren't supposed to be real?

[ The word slips from him before he can catch it. When he realizes what he's just said, the nausea kicks up ahead. His temple prickles and his throat is dry. ]

Head hunter? There's no...head hunter. Just the Queen has this thing for beheading people.

[She slowly moves over to him, now really curious about how his world is so familiar to the a children's story. She wants to ask if other names sound familiar but she can't remember a lot of them at the moment. Plus, they aren't in the best of spots for Gil to be having some sort of breakdown.]

The Queen of Hearts... Demios. [ He breathes quietly while staring at the ground before them. Another sharp ache and he leans his head into his hand, trying to regulate his breathing and most importantly, stay calm. ] Demios... Vince.

[ What does it mean? Are they all part of some story he's never heard of until now? Does this mean they never had a real say in their lives? ]

I...don't recognize a name like that. [She reaches over and gently places a hand on his arm.] Maybe we can find the book? Y'know, after we've got all cleaned up and stuff.

[ It's the logical action to take, but he's suddenly feelings too volatile and apprehensive to read up on this book with Kenzi. Perhaps he would look on his own time. ]

No, it's -- it's fine. I can do that on my own. We came to the zoo today because you wanted to.

If you're sure. [She started this and now she just wants to help. She gives his arm a pat before moving away again.]

Alice in Wonderland, yes? I'm sure I can easily find it in a bookstore.

[ Whether or not he reads its pages...

He notices she's moving away now and he grabs his scarf, slipping it back on to conceal the scar, and he holds his coat under his arm and follows after her. ]

What do you want to look at now?

[She looks back at him with a nod.] Yeah.

[She hadn't moved to leave but since he was picking everything up she grabs her hat and puts it back on despite it still being rather wet and grabs up her bag.] Eh, I think we're done. I really just wanna show and get into some clean clothes. Although I am hungry... [But who would let them come in and get food as they are?]

[ He wonders himself about that. They would dampen any seats they sat on and leave a strong scent behind, which is a rather unpleasant thought. ]

We have been here a while now. [ He remarks, surprise in his voice as he looks at his phone which thankfully still works despite the water. ] If you're hungry, you could order something and take it back with you or I can cook something hot.

[She can't pass up his cooking.] Ooh, you cooking something sounds great. I can help! [Of course, her way of helping is just watching, as he should know by now.]
