[Alison steps out the back door of the club, pulling off her wig and shoving it into her bag. She straightened her shoulder length hair before taking another step forward. It's a nice night out, but she knew to expect trouble of any sort. Giving a shrug, she starts walking onto the street. She's still dressed in her disco costume, but like that mattered. It was just another night with another solo gig, nothing special.]

[Jono's been patrolling for a bit now; he's finally gotten used to this beat, and he likes patrolling at night. Less people to stare at him, more darkness to hide his skin tone. He turns the corner and walks across the mouth of an alley; suddenly there's a woman coming out, and he does that awkward halt-step to avoid running into her.]

"Sorry, luv."

[She jumps back, holding up a hand and letting her finger lighten up. Her eyes widen when she catches sight of his appearance. Ohmigosh. He--he--. Oh, boy.]

"Whoa, there." She tilts her head. "My fault."

[He blinks as his eyes adjust to the light, then has to blink some more so his eyes can adjust to her outfit. Wow. She's staring at him, and he's used to that by now, but something about her pings something in his head. Does he know her from somewhere?]

"No worries, then," he says, polite. Civic duty and all.

[The appearance is...familiar, and she recognizes the voice too. It's obvious he's from the network, because who else in this city would look like that?]

"Who are you?"

[She's giving him a critical eye, something that's transcended the whole giant-blue-lips reaction he usually gets, and then she upfront starts to interrogate him. Well.]

"Officer Jonothon Starsmore."

[Going above and beyond the call of duty for snippy bints in disco dresses. Have a raised eyebrow.]

"Officer?"

[She grins a little. Yeah, he is certainly from the network.]

"I'm Alison Blaire. You're from the Network, aren't you?"

[She thinks she knows his name. But where from?]

"I'm from the porter, if that's what you mean."

[Yeah, he gets that a lot. Oh wait, she is too, alright. And wait... Blaire?]

"Yeah, I am. You're... I know you."

[Smooth operator, Starsmore is not. He racks his brains, and comes up with an album cover that was plastered over billboards back during his days with Generation X.]

"You're not - are you Dazzler?"

"Yep! That's me, honey. But my friends tend to call me Ali."

[She grins because she loves when people know who she is. And this guy seems like a huge step up from Weasel, so that was a plus.]

[Her grin is infectious, and Jono's caught off-guard by the endearments. But she's obviously being friendly, so he puts aside the prickliness he'd been feeling. For the moment. What's harder to put aside is the fact that he's never been a fan.]

"What should I call you, then?"

[He's not used to people being nice to him right off the bat, Ali. He's only half-teasing.]

"You can either call me Ali or Alison."

[She's trying her best to be friendly, but she can tell he's kind of grumpy. He probably has his reasons, but she doesn't ask.]

"And what should I call you, Officer?"

"Just Jono will do. The officer part's mostly for the benefit of people who don't like my looks."

[Grumpiness becomes him. Helps when your face is naturally square and you spent your youth as an angry Brit goth.]

"Are you with the X-men here?"

[Blah. Everyone always thinks that about her. Alison doesn't mind it, but she doesn't understand. She was only with the X-men for a very short period of time.]

The X-men aren't my gig anymore, Jono. I left them a long time ago.

[Maybe she's bitter. Maybe. She did have her life turned way upside down by those people. And then? Then there's Longshot.]

[The two things he knows about Dazzler is that she is a disco star, and that she was an X-man at some point. He's long since stopped paying attention to the wider superhero community.]

"No, I've grown out of that."

[Did somebody say bitter?]

[Looks like the bitter train as rolled in.]

"That just happens to some of us."

[More bitter?]

"It's not as great as they make it out to be."

[Common ground, hoorah.]

"Disillusionment is grand, innit?"

[They're like bitter old bffs. Except not really, and Jono has a job to do, now that he knows she's not about to pounce all over him and try to recruit him to the X-men.]

"D'you live around here?"

"Mhmm."

[She pauses, nodding along. She can't help but be a little bitter still, no matter how close she is with Warren. It just comes back to Longshot and the day he died, how it was handled. Ali can't seem to forget it just yet. And then there was when she had a hit out on her. Not that she was holding a grudge, only a small annoyance.]

"I live pretty close by."

[Jono figures that Dazzler of all people is able to handle herself alone late at night, so he doesn't offer to walk her home, exactly.]

"Good."

[Make that not at all.]

"Don't know how long you've been around here for, but the porter seems to like bringing in psychos. I've not seen or heard anything tonight, but it's best to be careful."

[Oh, she can handle it. She's even able to kick ass in roller skates, true story.]

"I know that, Jono. I keep my guard."

[She smiles.]

"So are you walking your "beat"?"

[Well, excuse him for doing his job. At her question, he looks the street up and down with appraisal.]

"Yep. Not much of a reason for me to be around this place, elsewise."

[Oh, boy.]

"Want some company---or do you prefer doing the solo thing?"

[She knows how that is.]

[Well on the one hand they're not exactly hitting it off. On the other, it's Dazzler, and he has a weakness for blondes.]

"Company would be alright, luv; I don't usually run into anyone worth talking to at this hour."

[We'll see if tonight's an exception.]

"Well, okay!"

[She beams at him because she does love company sometimes. And she's in an okay mood tonight, so there's that.]

"So how long have you been here for? I can already tell it's been more than a couple weeks."

[She's smiling at him. Jono is enlightened as to why so many blokes are Dazzler fans.]

"Just about, really. It doesn't feel like very long, but at the same time, this porter's got me living a different bloody life in under a month."

[Funny how that works.]

"How about yourself?"

"Time does go by fast here because of that thing."

[She has to think about that. It feels like forever since she arrived, but she cannot pinpoint the exact time.]

"I think it's just been a little over a month for me, actually."

"I think it really has to do with the rate at which things happen hereabouts."

[It's a bloody non-stop nightmare train, is what it is, but Jono's not going to let on that often he's glad for the distractions. Keeps him from thinking too deeply.]

"I've heard there are people about who've been here over a year, with no way back. A couple I've noticed are just kids, too."
