DUEL MONSTERS TOURNAMENT ♠ ROUND 1
WHO: ANYONE AND EVERYONE
WHERE: Central Park and Harbor
WHEN: Saturday March, 20th early afternoon
WARNING: Swearing and card games
SUMMARY: Round 1 of the duel monster's tournament.
FORMAT: Whatever you want!
Months of planning and recreating an empire from the ground up was finally reaching its climax. Fireworks shot into the sky as the workers ran out of the way trying to avoid the large screen to which the firework stands were attached. If there was still anyone who had not heard that a Duel Monsters Tournament was being held in the city, the sights and sounds quickly informed them.
The same set up was found in the two locations. One at the center of Central Park and the other stretched next to the water by the harbor. The rules the duelists had been given told them where to meet and when to be sure they would be there for the beginning. Since Kaiba couldn’t be in two places at once, especially as he had his own duel to prepare for, a video had been pre-recorded to start the event. The screens turned on at the same time, the KaibaCorp logo flashing across the screen. It disappears to show a montage of duels fought by different monsters. Those who are paying close attention may even notice cards that Kaiba could have only found out about in the City. The montage ends with a Blue Eyes White Dragon destroying everything in its path and causing the screen to fade to white.
The blank screen suddenly changes again to a video of Kaiba. “Welcome to this City’s first chance at a Duel Monster’s Tournament!” it started. “You have had plenty of time to prepare, and now it’s time to show exactly what you can do. At the end of this announcement the tournament will officially start.
“Find your opponent and duel! The winner will go on to the next round. The loser can go home. You have all been given copies of the rules. Any cheating will be punished.”
The Kaiba in the video paused, emphasing a big-brother idea about how cheating would be caught and punished. The look changed into a smirk as he threw his hand forward and dramatically proclaimed,
“Game Start!”
(Make your own threads here for your individual duels. You can log as much of the action as you want. Remember you need to PM me with the winner of each duel before Sunday 11pm CST (whether or not the log is finished). If I don’t have a winner I will proclaim one for you to keep things moving. In case you've forgotten the brackets are here)

"Hehe. My turn, draw!" He glanced at his cards and grinned. "First, I'll summon Air Hummingbird, and use his effect to recover 500 life points for every card in your hand!"
Back to 8100 LP. Juudai continued once Air Hummingbird finished "pollinating". "Next, I use the spell card Fake Hero to special summon Neos from my hand!"
Without skipping a beat, Juudai opened the field compartment of his disk. "Then I play the field spell, Neo Space!" Which boosted Neos' attack to 3000, enough to overpower all but one particular monster of Johan's... but it was still early yet; he had time to set up a counter.
"Battle! Neos attacks Sapphire Pegasus!"
Whether the attack went through or not, he'd contact fuse during the Main Phase 2 (knowing Johan wouldn't destroy Neos in anything other than battle) in the interest of both maximizing damage, as well as not putting himself in harm's way by leaving Air Hummingbird open for attack.
no subject
So, he decided not to make it that easy for him. "Trap, activate! Rainbow Path! By sending Emerald Turtle from the spell and trap zone to the graveyard, I negate your attack, and I can add Rainbow Dragon from my deck to my hand!"
He'd save his other trap card for another time, when it could be more useful to him and less useful to Juudai.
no subject
"Alright then. Main Phase 2! Go! Contact Fusion! Elemental Hero Air Neos!"
As expected. With his hand empty at this point, that was about the only move he could make at the moment. "Turn end."
no subject
"Come out, Amber Mammoth!" Johan called to his huge brother, who appeared with a mighty trumpet. If he could get rid of Neo-Space...well, perhaps next turn. "Turn end."
no subject
Nothing that would be good to play right now, as the only card in Juudai's hand at the moment. After a split second of thinking, he did the only thing that was worth doing this turn. "Air Neos attacks Amber Mammoth!"
no subject
With Juudai's turn over with, Johan drew his card. His grin was quick and delighted; just what he'd needed!
"I set one card facedown," he said, suiting actions to words and putting it in the spell and trap zone. "And end my turn."
Come on, Juudai, attack Sapphire Pegasus. You know you want to. And when he did...yeah. This was great.
no subject
Well, that'd be useful for later on. "I set one card, and then Air Neos attacks Sapphire Pegasus!" Juudai wasn't particularly worried, but even if he was playing into a trap, he'd already prepared something for just such a situation.
no subject
"Not so fast, Juudai! I activate Gem Prayer! By sending one Gem Beast from my spell and trap zone to the graveyard, I can destroy one of you cards...and I destroy Neo-Space!" That would drop Air Neos' attack down to 2500: and Sapphire Pegasus's was still 2600.
no subject
He cocked his head a little, confidently. "It's still the battle phase, so let's try this again! Neos, attack Sapphire Pegasus! Wrath of Neos!"
no subject
"Because of Gem Release going to the graveyard, I can put another Gem Beast in my spell and trap zone!" He set out Ruby Carbuncle there and waited for Juudai to finish his move.
no subject
Flare Scarab had 1700 attack points with its effect, which, unless Johan brought out Topaz Tiger, would be able to hold its ground against the remaining beasts until Rainbow Dragon came out. Juudai just hoped for the best until his next draw.
no subject
Topaz Tiger roared as he shimmered into existence, eying Flare Scarab as if he were a tasty little treat. Johan moved on to his next summons.
"Come out, Cobalt Eagle!" He grinned at Juudai from across the field. "Topaz Tiger, attack Flare Scarab!" Unless Juudai had something else to change the situation, he would follow up with a direct attack from Cobalt Eagle.
no subject
He did a quick mental head count. Six... dammit. He needed to hurry and get an advantage, or else Rainbow Dragon would send him packing.
no subject
But with Neos there now, he couldn't make the second attack that he'd wanted to. "Turn end." Now to see what else Juudai had in mind.

no subject
"I play Rare Value! You can choose one of the Gem Beasts in my spell and trap zone to send to the graveyard, and then I draw two cards! You can pick from Ruby Carbuncle, Topaz Tiger, or Sapphire Pegasus!"
Johan wondered who Juudai would pick. They all could be dangerous, in the right circumstances.

"I play Ancient City-Rainbow Ruins!" His beautiful field spell came into existence around them, the rainbow shimmering over Johan's own head. With two Gem Beasts in the spell and trap zone, he would be able to halve his battle damage.
"Turn end." Sadly, he couldn't attack Neos, not just yet. But soon. Perhaps sooner than Juudai would like.
no subject
Oh, that was a good draw. He'd be saving that one for later, definitely. In the meantime... "I activate my trap, Limit Reverse! From the graveyard, I summon Flare Scarab!"
With five total spell/trap cards on Johan's field, Flare Scarab was elevated to 2500 this time around, equal to Neos' power.
"Flare Scarab attacks Cobalt Eagle! Then, Neos attacks directly!"
no subject
"Cobalt Eagle goes to the graveyard!" He could've kept him on the field in the spell and trap zone, but that would have meant he couldn't do this. "And I activate Gem Set! When Cobalt Eagle goes to the graveyard, I can set another Gem Beast from my deck into the spell and trap zone!"
He grinned as Amethyst Cat joined them, fulfilling the requirement of seven. But that wasn't all. As Neos drew closer, a thin, transparent shield not of Johan's power's devising leapt up between them. "Not to mention, that thanks to Gem Set, I don't take any battle damage this turn."

no subject
"All seven of them together, on my field or in the graveyard. I summon Rainbow Dragon!" He tilted his head back as he held the card up high over his head, excitement running all through his veins as seven shades of light converged, then spun themselves into the mighty Ultimate Gem God.
If he really wanted to, he could do massive damage against Juudai just by sending the Gem Beasts on the field to the graveyard, to increase Rainbow Dragon's attack. If this duel were to settle the fate of the world, he would've done it. But since it wasn't...
"First, Amethyst Cat direct attacks you!" That would shave off a neat six hundred. The pale violet beast crouched down, then leaped over Juudai's monsters to land on him and scratch his face hard with Amethyst Nail.
Now, Flare Scarab or Neos? Flare Scarab could be more annoying than Neos, given how he drew power from the Spell and Trap cards on Johan's side of the field: even the Gem Beasts that were there. It would be better to get him out of the way and deal with Neos next turn.
"Rainbow Dragon! Attack Flare Scarab!"
no subject
"Draw!" He smirked suggestively at his draw, almost wanting to laugh, but managing to keep from doing so. It wasn't surprising, all things considered.
"Sorry, Johan, but I think it's time to level this game out a little. Activate spell card, Wrath of Neos! By returning Neos to the deck, I can destroy all cards on the field!!"
He'd be completely defenseless after this turn was over, but at least it would take Johan some time to rebuild his offense again. As Rainbow Dragon and the set Gem Beasts detonated, as well as the rest of his own field, a plume of smoke wafted up from the destruction.
"Turn end!" Juudai seemed proud of himself, almost silently taunting Johan to keep trying if he really wanted to win.
no subject
Yes, Juudai was quite proud of himself. Johan determined that he would make him regret that.
"I draw! Pot of Greed, and I draw again!" Ohh, and look what he had now. His eyes gleamed brightly as he displayed Monster Reincarnation. "I discard a card from my hand," he said, setting Gem Flood into the graveyard, "and return a monster card from my graveyard to my hand. I summon Sapphire Pegasus! And by his effect, I set Amber Mammoth in the spell and trap zone!"
He narrowed his eyes for a moment. "Sapphire Pegasus! Attack Juudai directly! Sapphire Horn!"
At once, Johan! Sapphire Pegasus' wings beat, taking him up into the air. He tossed his head back, then aimed his horn at Juudai, blasting him with 1800 points of damage before Sapphire settled back down.
"I set one card face-down and end my turn," Johan finished, now having no cards in his hand at all. Oh, but what a trump card he had waiting now...
no subject
"Draw!" Well, it would do for this situation, considering he couldn't use the other card in his hand right now. "I set a card and end my turn!"
