SUMMARY: Kenzi is out shopping for Kang's hatching day party and runs into Gil, possibly literally.
FORMAT: Quick

[It's just a few days until Kang's party and Kenzi wants everything to be perfect. She almost has everything needed but there's still a few more things to get. So she's out doing that. She's not paying much attention to the cart she's pushing as she pours over the shelf. Food stuff isn't a big issue for the party, same with alcohol, but she did want some decorations.]

Hmm, Tiki lights are always a must... [She muses as she moves along, eyes focused on the shelf and not where her cart is going.]

[ Earlier in the day Gil had made a list of some things he was going to need for the house and so after work he headed over immediately. Mostly small items: like light bulbs, things for the kitchen, etc.

He carries one of those plastic baskets in his hand. He stops, as he turns into the aisle and looks up to thread the sign above his head. Definitely the wrong aisle, but that thought is unimportant when he feels something solid bump into his backside. He stumbles slightly and turns around. ]

Sor -- huh? [ He blinks, owlishly. ] Kenzi?

[Kenzi jerks to a stop and blinks back at Gil. For a moment she's silent because she hasn't worked out what just happened. But she does, eventually.]

Gil! Hey. Uh, you okay?

I'm alright. [ The cart wasn't moving too quickly, so it's only sore for a few seconds before the pain subsides entirely. He straightens his posture, looking over her cart now. ] Shopping?

[She glances down at the cart before nodding. The cart itself is filled with various snack foods and a few party decorations.] Yeah, just getting a few things the party.

[She pauses for a short moment.] What do you think of tiki lights?

Kang's party. [ He remembers now. He adjusts the basket in his hand which isn't filled entirely, but does contain everyday household goods like cleaning products, light bulbs, and a manual can opener. ]

Tiki lights? [ He pauses, not even sure what that is until he looks over at the shelf. ] Those things?

Yup. [She grins and nods.]

Yeah, those things. I'm thinking about decorating with a few of them. The bar is a little on the dark side and the owner said I could decorate however as long as I take it all back down.

[ He looks at the tiki lights, noting they're pretty bright and colourful.

But then again, he's never thrown a party like this or whatever Kenzi was cooking up. ]

They're alright. I'm sure Kang would like them.

[It really didn't matter what Gil said about the lights, Kenzi is getting them anyway. If not for the party they'll go up in the apartment.]

Probably. Although lanterns might look better. Or maybe too girly? [She taps her bottom lip in thought.]

Lanterns seem unsafe in an enclosed space. [ He's thinking of the ones with fire and gaslight, of course. ] Would the owner of the bar allow that?

[She blinks at him.] Not ones with fire. Like... [She glances around until she locates some cheaply made paper lanterns that are attached to a string of lights.] These!

Oh. [ He seems a bit surprised, but in retrospect he should have figured this period would have something as non-hazardous as that. He gives the paper lanterns a once over. ] Either one would be alright. It's up to you, really.

[Kenzi holds up a package of tiki lights in one hand and a package of the lanterns in the other. She frowns as she glances back and forth between the two. After a moment she shrugs and tosses them both into the cart. They might not both get used at the party but they'll get used elsewhere.]

I guess I'll just have to figure out which to use later.

You'll buy both?

[ Personally, he's stingy with money. If he doesn't need it, he's not going to buy it. ]

Yup. I can use them to decorate at home too.

[She grins as she moves back behind the cart. One string should be enough.] So, you're coming right?

I guess -- huh? [ He moves out of her way so she can push the cart forward, looking uncertain. ] To the party, you mean? [ At a bar... ]

Duh, the party! You don't have to worry about getting Kang a gift, he'll just be happy to see people. [Yes, a bar. A bar rented out just for the party.]

You want me to come? I don't know him that well... [ But he does like him. ]

So? You can get to know him better. [She shrugs.]

As friends?

If that's what you want. I know Kang's always happy to have more friends. [She still has to wonder how Mordin thought Kang wasn't the social sort.]

[ He starts down the aisle and lets out a quiet sigh. Is he always going to be weird about this friendship stuff? Yes. ]

He is a kind person. [ For a non-human, he doesn't act like one. Not like Piccolo, although Gil has no quarrel with him either. He's mostly bothered when he has to face him and the reminders of the stadium several months ago now. ] I wouldn't want to show up empty handed, though.

Yeah, he is. Really protective too. [Same could be said for Piccolo. But Kenzi seemed to get that out of a lot of people she befriended; they all wanted to protect her.]

I could help you find something, if you want. Although we might need to head to a liquor store. We probably wouldn't find anything worth drinking here.

Of you? [ He looks her over. Gil, too, wants to protect her like many of the friends he's made here. After what Fury and Bobbi told him about Red Death and what had happened to Los Angeles especially. ]

Alright. What sort of liquor does he fancy?

Yeah. [She smiles.] I feel sorry for any fuck that tries to hurt me and he finds out. [She's not sure if she could talk him down if someone hurt her enough.]

He likes the strong stuff. He loves anything that tastes like what he would find back home. Something old and strong. So uh, basically the not cheap stuff.

[ He frowns a little at the thought while he walks down the aisle and reaches into his coat pocket for the list he made. ]

Is he powerful, then?

[ Then he nods. ]

We can look in a bit. I need to pick up -- [ he looks at the paper and squints ] one more thing.
