SUMMARY: Trying to stop thinking so much, Momiji starts wondering around the City.

Momiji had been spending his first few days in the City trying to wrap his mind around the concept of being stuck in this new reality. It hadn’t been going well. Thinking about it left him depressed and filled with questions about the future. The silence that filled his apartment wasn’t helping. Momiji had never really been alone. Sure, the houses on Sohma estate were usually quiet, but there had still been the background hum of human life. To keep himself from dwelling on his situation, Momiji had been busy acquiring a new wardrobe and decorating his room.

But there was only so much time he could dedicate to deciding between shades of pink and by Friday, Momiji running out of things to do. Determined not to spend his weekend worrying over something he couldn’t change, he rose early and with a game plan. He was going to explore the City and get familiar with the place he’d be calling home from now on. Mentally pumping himself, Momiji pulled on a sweater and strode out the door.

"Un, because of how serious he is with it." Bakura nodded as he set the puck sailing back. "He's got a really good eye for things and can spot any opening!"

"He must be really good." Momiji said, blocking again. "It's admirable to have drive."

And if there was one thing Hiruma had in excess, drive would be it!

"He's pretty amazing! Back in his world he created the American Football team for his school and got them to the championships!"

"That's really neat! They must have really worked hard." Momiji was impressed by this. Anyone who went that far with their passion was just awesome in his book.

"If they worked half as hard as Hiruma-kun worked the team here, they really did!" Bakura laughed.

Welcome to the cast of Shonen manga, Momiji. Passion, luck and plot devices everywhere!

Momiji nodded, focusing on the game. He smiled as he hit the puck to the right. "Bakura-kun you really look up to your friends, don't you?"

Unfortunately, Momiji's from the land of Shoujo. Drama everywhere and sparkles in lieu of backgrounds.

"Un," Bakura nodded, a soft, almost far away smile on his face. "I couldn't imagine my life with out them."

Well no, that was a bit of a lie. He'd still be dead without them. But that wasn't exactly something you just said, even in the City!

The *Thunk!* of the puck going into this goal startled him out of his moment and he gave a sheepish laugh. "Aaa, I shouldn't get so distracted!"

Momiji smiled at the obviously happy look on Bakura's face. It kind of reminded him of Tohru talking about her friends. "That's really sweet."

Momiji gave a mockingly evil laugh at his point. "That's secretly my plan. Distract you so I can win!"

"Aaa, not fair!" Bakura laughed. "Thinking about friends is supposed to help you win, not make you lose!" he protested.

Not that this was a serious game or anything!

And just wait til he really gets going on the topic. He can friendship speech with the best of them now!

"Too bad." Momiji stuck out his tongue and giggled. He was having too much fun with this. "You've got to pay attention around me! I can be pretty sneaky!"

Momiji would be glad to here it. He's had his share of inspirational speeches back in the day.

"Aa~aaah, so I'm learning!" Bakura grinned. Something else they had in common, it seemed! It was always so amusing when such innocent faces held such devious streaks. All good natured, of course! "But you aren't supposed to tell people that, then they'll suspect, and what's the fun of that?"

"You'll have to keep it secret then! So no one else will know of my evil plans." Momiji laughed, holding up a finger in a shushing motion. Before his time here was up, most everyone he met would see this deviousness.

Where as Bakura was far more subtle with his. Only his close friends and Calvin (who was the target of much of Bakura's impish nature) had any clue. "Sure, sure!" he grinned. "You can count on me! But now that I know, I won't be so easy on you~" he teased, sending the puck going on another crazy angle so that it bounced off the sides 5 times before it got near the goal.

"Oh no!" Momiji laughed, completely missing the puck as he conversed with Bakura. He retrieved it from the opening and grinned. "You made a point."

Bakura grinned. "You have to pay attention, Momiji-kun~" he teased good naturedly before giving a soft laugh. "So now we're even, ne?"

Momiji should have known his teases were going to get thrown back at him. "Heh, we're even, we're even." He hit the puck, looking amused.

It was only fair, after all. And despite Bakura's vow of not going easy on him, he didn't repeat the crazy strike.

He was a bigger softy than that, despite being a little imp at times.

"So have you decided about school yet?"

Momiji took a few moments to think, settling into the rhythm of the game. "I think I'll try the Institute. I might as well go to school, get better with my English." He laughed softly. "The worst that can happen is I won't like it. Then I'll just work somewhere."

Bakura nodded, half concentrating on the game, half on the conversation. "Probably a good idea! And if you do want a job, you can help out in the toy store," he offered with a smile. Momiji's bright personality would be perfect for the front end, he was sure of it.

Momiji just stared at Bakura. "Really?" He asked, a little shocked. He had been think about a part time job, if the schools around here allowed students to have them. He wasn't expected someone to give him an offer. "I, uh, I used to help my friend at her janitor job! I even took over for her sometimes. So, I can help with that if you need me."

"If you'd like!" Bakura smiled, making sure to hit the puck far more easily since Momiji was distracted. Getting in one distraction shot was enough! "But I think you'd be really great helping out customers!" Though of Momiji really wanted to do clean up, Bakura wouldn't protest.

"You'd really let me? That's so great." Momiji would like to thank you for the let up Bakura, he was busy basking in this new development. His return was absent minded. "I don't know if I'd be good with that. But, ah, I'll work really hard at whatever you tell me to do. I guess this means I won't have to worry about school then."

"You should still try out the school!" Bakura insisted, still being very gentle in his return. "Schools here will let you have a part time job if you'd like to! And whatever you feel comfortable with is fine! You can try out both jobs and see which you prefer."

Momiji was surprised that he wouldn't need to get permission from the school for a job. This place was a lot different the home. "Thank you so much!" He gushed, fairly failing around. "I'll start whenever you want, Boss!"

"Aaa--, no, no, don't call me that!" Bakura laughed. It was bad enough with Shuichi insisting on using -san with him at work. Not even his regular employees who weren't his friends called him boss or anything like that. "And you can stop by sometime next week and we'll work it all out, all right? And you can meet Jonah-kun and Shuichi-kun too!"
