SUMMARY: It’s Reilly and Matt’s birthday! A party is thrown, good times are had. Whether the birthday boys like it or not.

After the late- or was it just really early?- birthday-meeting with Matt and dad the night before, May had immediately headed home to start decorating and generally preparing for the day. This would be the second of Matt and Reilly’s birthday’s she’d be witness to. It was weird to think about. But more than that, she was determined to give this year’s a little more kick to it than the rushed surprise cake from the year before. She knew all the more now how rarely either man celebrated the day at all, let alone happily. And just in case she’d been in danger of forgetting that, Matt’s post the night before had certainly reinforced the point.

So she’d gone all out. Streamers, balloons, all the works she could manage in their small apartment, even a few frosting scented (and oh so carefully webbed by the bottom in place) candles for the birthday boy who couldn’t appreciate the sights. Along, of course, with the finest in ordered food and (non-alcoholic) drink she could manage with the pooled money from interested parties. Now it was just a matter of tricking the boys into both coming and staying long enough to enjoy themselves.

BEFORE THE PARTY

[Here is Cass knocking at the door, a few minutes early and carrying a plate of chocolate chip cookies that she baked herself. They weren't terribly good, but they were actually edible for a change, so she considered them a success.]

[May has what looks suspiciously like glitter in her hair when she opens the door with a grin.]

Hey! Glad you could make it! And for more than one reason. I'm, ah, not so sure a guest of honor would be making it himself if not.

[She steps back and gestures her on in]

[Charlie appears in a flash of pink light and smoke with a big cardboard box in her hands full of stuff that's labaled 'Party Castle USA.' Streamers, hats, decorations, even some silly little plastic party favor toys.]

I got all the black and red stuff they had and then like...everything else that seemed...fun.

[Charlie grins sheepishly.]

[May grins from her current position of being stuck to the wall, getting a banner going.]

Charlie, that could mean anything with you, girl.

Living Room

[Gerry had made himself at home on the couch, trying to look like he wasn't as amused as he was feeling right now. Somehow, May had talking him into to wearing a cone-shaped party hat.

Barkdevil, who had grown a little more in the past few months, was sitting next to him, getting some pets and occasionally jumping off the couch to chase after people's feet before returning to his base on the couch.]

[May flopped down on the couch near to Gerry after a little while, obstinately to pay attention to that most adorable puppy that now sat between them. She reached out and ruffled Barkdevil's ears with a grin. The smile widened a little after she glanced up at the still-in-place hat. Victory was hers.]

Some night.

[Suddenly Charlie was plopping down on the couch next to him, wearing her own silly party hat.]

That hat is totally fantastic.

[She grinned sillily as she reached out to scratch the dog on the head.]

I'm Charlie. Who're you?

[Peter has been running late as usual, courtesy of a not-so-friendly neighborhood carjacker or two. That situation resolved, he shows up an hour or so into the party with a suspiciously full backpack, looking around for either (a) birthday boys to greet or (b) a place to put down his presents.]

[ and johnny walks smack into him, just happening to be walking out a door while peter was walking in. johnny's attention to his surroundings is kind of lacking. ]

[After he has a chance to socialize with the family, Cass approaches him slowly, sipping from a soda as she does so.]

[Elektra is gently nudging aside any decorations in search for somewhere to set down last minute gifts. It's kind of hard to turn down the drunken invitation of the sad alternate universe version of someone you care about. Right about now she's wishing she had.]

[Escape a little to make some coffee or help take out the trash (for once there are no dirty dishes, since the hostess promised not to cook). Also perfect for a more private conversation.]

[There's no balcony to this apartment, so you've either gone down the stairs or, in this crowd, crawled out a window for a bit of fresh air.]

[About halfway through the party, it started to get a little too noisy for Gerry. He still didn't know most of the people who weren't spider-devil related, and that made him a bit uncomfortable after a while, so he "subtly" climbed out the window, sticking to the side of the building and watching the traffic flow underneath.]

Dining Room

[More like a dining area, these apartments aren't huge you know. Still, the table is laden with tempting treats and drinks. Mingle, munch, and try not to spill anything.]
