i reach out to touch you:
WHO: ImPorts in Venezuela
WHERE: Mérida, Venezuela
WHEN: October 19th 10AM to October 20th 10AM.
WARNINGS: Strong language is likely. Potential violence.
SUMMARY: Welcome to the twenty-four hour masquerade! Refreshments will be flowing throughout the hours, and while entertainment is provided (both musical and theatrical), don't let that deter you from inventing your own mischief. Remember, there's only one rule: while at the masquerade, you cannot remove your mask!
As the levity hits its high notes, however, beware the dark figures scheming in the shadows, those poisoners with swift hands. By 12AM October 20th, the imPort-only virus will be exposed and infecting the masqueraders first, before spreading outwards.
FORMAT: Whatever you'd like.
Masks of all counterfeits paid tribute to the color spectrum that soon poured out into the confetti-strewn streets that morning. The flood of spectacle drowned away any groans of the mundane, and once ten o'clock stuck then did intrigue ascend to the hazy plateau of status quo. Bodies moved like whispers against each other, some seeking friends, while others hoped to fool foes. The air sung with sticky excitement: mischief was welcomed here, as long as you did it honestly. As long as you wore your face over your mask.

Well, he reasoned, what's the fun if his audience was wholly clueless?
In his hand he held a modest glass of red wine. The hour was never too early, nor too late, to appreciate the grapevine (word or otherwise) -- at least, one could argue, not during significant situations.
And what wasn't significant about a masquerade? This was nothing if not an invitation for truth, he thought.]

after 8pm;; open
When the Masquerade comes—after the light sails and sets, for who wants to wear a mask under the sun?—she's as ready as she'll ever be, anticipating some awful fate with the same level of calm face and storming heart as every day previous.
So under the dark canopy, Ruka mimics the hidden moon, dressed in sweeping gray and silver. For her, just a mask or a change of clothes isn't enough to hide who she is, and what's the point of a disguise that can be seen through from blocks away? The green of her hair is tied up and hidden away under a black wig in a bob cut; her right arm wears a long, gossamer sleeve from shoulder to a hands-width away from her wrist (with a slip beneath, of course, to hide the true scars). Her left is bare; the asymmetrical scoop of the dress peaks on her one right shoulder, curving down to slip beneath her other arm, and then curving back up like a tear; the drop waist, another diagonal cut for the hem, loose skirting.
She's meant to pass for a seventeen-year-old in her day-to-day life anyway; besides, she was getting taller anyway, her slight curves starting to settle into place.
Bangles around her wrist and rings on her manicured fingers; no gloves. Not today; they're too obviously her accessory. Heels give her height enough to pass for someone else, and her mask hides her distinctive eyes. A half moon; her blind side masked under bright silver, her seeing side with a curling black. She can see through the darkness fine, but someone gazing her way might mistake the mask for blinding. It seems appropriate enough. If nothing else, Ruka thinks with her tongue pinched between her teeth, it's less effort than using makeup to cover her fatigue.
As she flits through the party, hither and thither with a shift in her voice for accent, Ruka lets her hands settle wherever they please. The decorations, the freshly-cleaned glasses, catching on trinkets and props, on the palms of gloves and the warm metal of rings. Let them enjoy themselves with company and liquor and music; Ruka's soft fingers harvested the loose strands of revelry as they lay.
Disaster was inevitable; she may as well steal some measure of happiness from those who shed it in excess.]

Instead she sways a little in time with the masquerade's music as she drifts through the courtyard, looking around her to see the other partygoers, their masks and costumes. It's fun at first, interesting to see what everyone has worn, even if, new as she is to this world, there's not much point in trying to recognize anyone in specific.
With evening fallen, though, it's getting hard not to see Shadows everywhere, makes her wish she had her Evoker with her even though she knows better. Comfortable as she usually is wearing a mask, there's a moment where her hand reaches up to her face as though to lift the mask from it, before she hesitates, thinks better of it, and lets her hand drop to her side again.
She's just tired, still, she tells herself, and briefly closing her eyes she deliberately turns over the card in her mind, pushing Orpheus away and letting Messiah's warm radiance fill her instead. The slow trickle of Invigoration helps a little.
Lifting her head, Minako goes in search of some light.]

He's made no obvious attempt to hide his identity-his long ponytail and facial hair remain shown. His mask is simple, a checkered mask in the harlequin pattern. He's wearing a simple black tuxedo, but with a dark red bowtie and cumberbund. Not very dramatic, but then again he never was a man for the ostentatious (at least, that was what he thought about himself. The gargoyle themed supersuit hidden in Xanatos Enterprises back in the City would beg to differ.)
Excusing himself from a conversation, he walked over to a server, taking a glass of wine with a slight nod to the man. He stood off from the main crowd, as he took a sip of the wine and started to watch the people, milling about, talking, and generally enjoying the atmosphere. Conversation was nice, but he needed a few moments to himself every now and then.]

She didn't arrive at the dance until after six. It was already dark then, even if there were plenty of lanterns and such to light everything up. Her eyes are wide as she tries to take in all the decorations and the pure beauty of the courtyard. Belgium had been beautiful, but something about Venezuela was bewitching.
Nill starts to wander, almost dazed, readjusting her mask every few seconds to make sure it stays on correctly. She hadn't bothered to actually try and hide her identity--the angel wings protruding from her back were a dead giveaway, even to anybody who didn't know her personally. But the mask was required, and not that much of an imposition anyway.]

late night; (OPEN)
Despite all of the festivities and people she can introduce herself to, she finds herself slipping back out into the courtyard in the later parts of the eve. Admittedly being around people was nice (it reminds her of her popularity at school just a few months prior), but she's never been one to actually socialize. The allure that came from her was only because of her high grades and looks, yet she kept every classmate at a distance. Uncomfortable with the large amount of people in a 'small' area, she retreats to the cooler winds of night. She doesn't seem all too eager to talk to anyone who approaches her, but maybe a warm personality can melt the ice. ]

he has made his way out into the courtyard, having been overwhelmed by all the gaudy outfits and music and general tomfoolery inside. he already kind of wishes he hadn't come. parties are, in his experience, nothing more than a hub for disaster and humiliation. but his friends were supposedly here, and even if he isn't their leader anymore, he can't help but want to keep an eye on them. that's why he bothered coming to venezuela in the first place. well, that and not wanting to be left out.
keeping an eye on his friends would be made easier if he could actually find any of them, however. he straightens up and scans the courtyard with a searching gaze, hoping to catch a glimpse of orange horns or grey skin not covered up by a mask. ]

she'd excused herself a moment to the courtyard shortly before sunset, just to enjoy it for a few last moments as it said its goodnights for the evening. she had to admit, the week away had been pleasant. she was tempted to even admit that she was happy today, having done her share to see a few things set in motion without too much meddling, and just enjoying the vacation with her special lady.
there's certainly no way this could all go horrifically wrong in the end. ]

She's been observing the week's activities with a keen eye, and this one is no exception. Dressed to the nines as much as she ever is, her face shadowed beneath her mask, she floats through the festivities with only a pretense of taking part.

The masks others wear doesn't hide their identities from him, either, due to his heightened senses. Appearances can be changed, but scents are much more difficult, and rarely thought of by the other races. He does, at least, make sure not to address anyone he recognizes by name in case they want anonymity.
He's not a fan of wine, and there's no ale or beer, so he sticks to something with vodka in it, watching the interactions curiously. This is the first time a draconian has ever been invited, let alone attended a ball of any sort.]

You won't catch him dancing in the streets, either, but people-watching suits him just fine, especially when there's music to clap to and food to scarf.]

THE PLAGUE
The bells soon sing midnight,
and you feel it in your skin.
A burning so forthright
and so vulgar to listen.
Touch nothing, no one
seek to quarantine your face
as your mutation has begun
in which you can't erase.
OPEN
He doesn't get a chance to figure out what's going on, though, because his earpiece abruptly squawks with feedback, making him yelp and wrench it away from his ear. It makes another tinny, dying noise in the palm of his hand, and he stares at it, bewildered. What the hell just...?
Someone screams, and he looks up sharply, a sinking feeling hitting him as the glittering, mask-wearing crowd begins to move. The feeling just worsens when he turns his gaze back to where he last saw the Mayor, and he isn't there. ]
Motherfucker! [ He swears, starting to push back through the press of bodies heading in the opposite direction - because where trouble is, that's probably where his boss will be. It's like fighting the tide. Cut off from the rest of the team, he's only got his own eyes to count on, and he tears his mask off, dropping it to the ground, to give him better visibility. ]
