[ Bradbury startles at being addressed, but he can't say he's surprised that Ned seems a little shocked to see him - he probably looks like crap. At least he isn't bleeding anymore. ]

You're, uh, Ned, right? I'm Bradbury. [ He doesn't know if his voice is enough for Ned to recognize him by. Eyes flicking to the "closed" sign, he clears his throat. ] Sorry, uh, I didn't know what time you closed up.

[onetouch]

Oh, don't worry about it. [He gestures inside though he's still a bit shaken. Digby sits still several yards back.] Come sit, you look like you could use some coffee.

[Ned waves him over to the bar, moving behind it into the kitchen.] I hope you don't mind waiting a few minutes for a fresh pot.

...It's nice to meet you, Bradbury. I'm Ned, yes.

[waiting]

We spoke before. [ Not ... helpful, Bradbury, and he winces faintly as he steps inside and gratefully takes a seat. ]

Sorry. Guess I'm still a little out of it. I don't mind waiting.

[onetouch]

[Ned smiles gently, pouring a mug of coffee and setting the cream and sugar within arm's reach. The main lights aren't on but there are Christmas lights up all behind the bar illuminating the space.] I remember.

May I ask... what happened?

[waiting]

[ Unlike his boss, he doesn't take it straight-up black, so he automatically adds in his sugar and cream without thinking about it. It takes him a couple of moments to answer. ]

I went home. [ It seems easiest to start with that, the memory that doesn't cause any pain, doesn't make his mind want to flinch back from it. Sure, being hit on the head and shot at might not count as a good memory, but it's better than the alternative. Better than what happened here. But it feels like he's omitting something, and he stares down at his coffee. Quietly: ]

After I died.

[onetouch]

...Oh. [He has to swallow the rising acid in his throat, thinking about the dead rising. It was probably the thing he least liked about this place. It was unnatural, and Ned knew only too personally the cost.] I'm very sorry to hear that.

How was home?

[waiting]

...Yeah. [ He seems to notice Ned's discomfort, at least enough to make the effort to actually steer the conversation away from that topic. ]

Just like I remember it, actually. I guess people weren't kidding about the whole -- [ He waves a hand. ] -- time stopping when you get brought back here, or something.

[onetouch]

[He nodded, a somber expression engulfing his features.] I learned that as well, not too long ago.

[waiting]

Yeah, you mentioned being here before. How long were you back home?

[onetouch]

8 days, 23 hours, 31 minutes. But here it was... nearly a year.

[waiting]

I know someone who was gone for one day, but it was more than a year for him. [ He smiles, a little wryly. ] Looks like you never really have a way of predicting it.

[onetouch]

[He opens his mouth to respond but ends up just smiling.] Can I get you some pie?

[waiting]

Well, pie's what I'm here for. It's why it's called the Pie Hole, right? [ He smiles, a little crookedly, trying to go for good humor. ]

What do you recommend?

[onetouch]

[He nods, jovially.] As in 'shut your-' [He knows Bradbury gets it already, but it's habit.]

Perhaps something... Spring-y to commemorate being alive again.

[waiting]

Sounds good to me. [ He shrugs, resting his hands on the table. ]

I don't make pies, I just eat 'em, so...

[onetouch]

[Ned eyed the man then asked plainly,] You don't have any allergies, do you?

[waiting]

The only thing I'm allergic to is dying. [ Weak joke, but there it is. ] I'll be fine. Hit me with your best shot.

[onetouch]

[He nods quickly, off to grab some kiwi pie. It was rarely ordered in the wintertime, but he liked to keep it on hand just in case.

And a few moments later will see him serving it, watching closely for a reaction.]

[waiting]

[ If he's surprised by the choice of pie, Bradbury doesn't show it, though he perks up a little at the prospect of, well, eating. ]

[ Curiously enough, the sight of actual food brings back the appetite he was only half-considering a while ago. After a moment's consideration to consider the pie, he eventually digs his fork in to try some, popping it into his mouth and chewing thoughtfully.

Almost imperceptibly, he relaxes. ]

Pretty good pie.

[onetouch]

[Ned smiles warmly, another happy customer.] Thank you, I make it just the way my mother used to. A taste of home, both literally and... not so.

[waiting]

Can't say I'd know what that's like, since I've ever had homemade pie before. [ Not the kind a mother would make, anyway. ] I'll take your word for it.

[ He has more of an appetite than he thought he did, and he's working through it pretty quickly. ]

You got all this set up by yourself? [ He waves a hand around at the Pie Hole. ]
