TURKEY DAY AT THE PIE HOLE II

WHO: Ned and Digby and you and you and you and all your closest friends
WHERE: The Pie Hole pie restaurant and bakeshop
WHEN: Thanksgiving Day, November 22 8am - November 23 1am (he'lll stick around for any stragglers tho)
WARNINGS: Shouldn't be any...
SUMMARY: Ned invites the whole City to the Pie Hole. He and Zatanna are cooking and baking everything (there are meat and meatless options), but feel free to bring a favorite from home!
FORMAT: quick/spam; make your own threads for your own people or table. on open threads estimate the time of arrival.
NO ONE IS EVER LATE!!!!!

[From the outside, the Pie Hole hasn't changed much, though the window is draped in elaborate snowflake-shaped lights, but inside is a whole other story. Zatanna has made quite a spectacle of the place, a huge banquet hall filled with long and short tables for enjoying your meal with any number of friends. And the decorations are outrageous. Ned's Christmas decorations, which were already over-the-top have all been magically enhanced and Thanksgivingsized like little crystalline pumpkin baubles and overspilling cornucopia on each buffet table, lined up in front of the kitchen. Ned is firmly putting his foot down this year: no one is to enter his kitchen but Zee or himself.

He'll be serving regular pie menu as well as breakfast (frittatas) until twelve noon at which point there will be an hour or two for people to arrive and mingle. The food will be out by 1:30-2 pm and dessert to be served at 3 pm. Ned just wants everyone to have a great day so come in and make yourself at home!! There are a few kegs as well if you all didn't listen and byob...]

[ She nods back, her smile a little restrained but genuine nonetheless. Barbara had seemed pretty nice, and she was one of the members of the Batfamily she didn't know as well and wanted to. ]

You too. How have you been?

Not too bad. How about you?

[She glanced around the place, taking in both the place and the people.]

Do they do this every year here?

I'm doing okay. [ A momentary wariness, because these days she can never quite tell if someone's asking how she is with hidden intent, if they've seen the video online. It's a weird thing to have out there. ]

I'm not really sure, but maybe? They did last year when I'd first come in, but I don't know about before that.

[Sometimes Barbara thinks she should really get around to writing a 'Bat-to-English' dictionary, detailing the various meanings of "okay" and "fine". But that day is not today and it's a holiday besides, so she takes it at face value and just nods.]

Glad to hear it.

Well, I'm impressed. I never thought the fanciest Thanksgiving I've ever been to would be at a restaurant.
futurebatwoman: ([A] I must have made it through)

[personal profile] futurebatwoman 2012-11-27 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ There's at least ten different ways to take it, and the majority of them about the opposite of 'fine' in actuality. But yes, today is a holiday. And holidays are made for things to be relatively light and good. ]

Ned's been really invested in making it the best Thanksgiving he possibly could, and it shows. I forgot this was your first Thanksgiving here.

It's nice of him. So many of us are here without family - it's nice to have somewhere to go, at least for those of us used to celebrating it.

It really is. Are you big on Thanksgiving, then?

[She shakes her head in reply]

No, not really. Dad was usually working, so we didn't get to celebrate it often.

Still, it's something familiar. And even without celebrating it, it wasn't something that just passed without notice.

After all, you'd have to blind and deaf to miss all the Black Friday ads.

What about you?
futurebatwoman: ([A] Terry's a bro)

[personal profile] futurebatwoman 2012-11-28 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, those are everywhere.

[ She shrugs a little bit. ]

We had Thanksgiving dinner, but it was never a big deal. Just actually eating dinner together as a change. It would have felt weird to have it alone, I think.

One day I think they'll find a way to broadcast them into our dreams.

[She shrugs]

You get used to it.

But that doesn't mean it isn't usually nicer to spend it with other people.
futurebatwoman: ([A] show me the world of code)

[personal profile] futurebatwoman 2012-12-02 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
They may have already done it, you never know. We just don't consciously remember when we wake up.

[ She nods, spins her glass around slowly. ]

I'll take your word for it. It seems like one of the things you'd have to get used to.
