TURKEY DAY AT THE PIE HOLE II

WHO: Ned and Digby and you and you and you and all your closest friends
WHERE: The Pie Hole pie restaurant and bakeshop
WHEN: Thanksgiving Day, November 22 8am - November 23 1am (he'lll stick around for any stragglers tho)
WARNINGS: Shouldn't be any...
SUMMARY: Ned invites the whole City to the Pie Hole. He and Zatanna are cooking and baking everything (there are meat and meatless options), but feel free to bring a favorite from home!
FORMAT: quick/spam; make your own threads for your own people or table. on open threads estimate the time of arrival.
NO ONE IS EVER LATE!!!!!

[From the outside, the Pie Hole hasn't changed much, though the window is draped in elaborate snowflake-shaped lights, but inside is a whole other story. Zatanna has made quite a spectacle of the place, a huge banquet hall filled with long and short tables for enjoying your meal with any number of friends. And the decorations are outrageous. Ned's Christmas decorations, which were already over-the-top have all been magically enhanced and Thanksgivingsized like little crystalline pumpkin baubles and overspilling cornucopia on each buffet table, lined up in front of the kitchen. Ned is firmly putting his foot down this year: no one is to enter his kitchen but Zee or himself.

He'll be serving regular pie menu as well as breakfast (frittatas) until twelve noon at which point there will be an hour or two for people to arrive and mingle. The food will be out by 1:30-2 pm and dessert to be served at 3 pm. Ned just wants everyone to have a great day so come in and make yourself at home!! There are a few kegs as well if you all didn't listen and byob...]

SLOWLY CATCHES UP (SLOWLY)

[Zatanna wasn't too familiar with the pink-haired young woman that had slid up and taken a seat at her table... so, naturally, she decides to hop on over to make a new friend. Why not, right?

--after the poor thing seems to have mostly finished eating, of course. There's just some things that aren't acceptable to do on Thanksgiving and interrupt someone's meal is one of them.

Zee smiles and offers a nod as she slips into a chair.]
Did you find everything okay?
futurebatwoman: ([A] cheerfully pleased)

LUCY lucy hi i get lucy cr :D

[ She knew about Zatanna from the Justice League, of course, and she'd seen her around the network, but somehow they'd never actually run into each other at City Hall yet.

Still, it was pretty easy to place her, and of course Max had been eating at her table, so she smiled at her.
] I did. It was really nice, you guys did a great job. You helped Ned with it all, right?
hexappeal: (you're precious.)

[The City Hall thing was most likely her ability to be there only when it was inconvenient and to only bother Mitch and to talk to April (which usually fell under the "bothering Mitch" category). She was that person who was there all the time and had an official title, but she didn't get paid for it. Who knows, right?]

I appreciate the compliment. And yeah, I did. He wouldn't let anyone else in the kitchen. [Which sounds almost like she's joking.]
futurebatwoman: ([A] serenely confident)

omg you spelled my name right how cool 8D

[ It's really quite an impressive ability, that. And talking to April is always a fun pastime, she totally endorses that. Also bothering Mitch. (Sorry Mitch.) ]

I can't believe you guys did all this by yourself. [ with a smile. ] It was really great to do this for everyone. I mean, Thanksgiving is meant to be a together thing.
hexappeal: (and nothing is better than you.)

i know right! that's how hard i'm workin' on this!

[personal profile] hexappeal 2012-11-30 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[This'll work out just fine.]

It took a lot of forethought and a lot of work, but I think that it's nice. A lot of people are new or don't want to intrude or whatever. The first year I was here, I had mine at my place and had an "everyone is welcome," attached to it. I'm just keeping that tradition here. [She ducks her head and smiles coyly. The compliment clearly got to her.] I agree. I don't look at it as an American holiday or in any sort of religious way. Just... family and friends.

So, welcome to the Pie Hole. If you're here next year, I hope you'll join us at the same time.
futurebatwoman: ([A] Terry's a bro)

awww you are excellent

[ Yes, yes it probably will. ]

And when so many people don't have family here, friends become really important. I had Thanksgiving with people from my world last year, but if I hadn't had anywhere to go I think I would have felt kind of lost. [ More lost than she had, and being new here was feeling pretty lost. ]

I'm Max Gibson, by the way. I work at City Hall, I've seen you around.
hexappeal: (is that so?)

thank you u///u

[personal profile] hexappeal 2012-12-01 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, yeah. It can be hard to know where to start in forming attachments. You talk to someone, think it clicks... it doesn't. Whatever, there's a million different things to see, a million things to do and it's different, even if it's the same -- so I think it's important. [But she smiles more widely, glad that Max found her place in the City, if only for a moment.] But you can mostly thank Ned for this, when you see him.

I'm Zatanna Zatara and, er, likewise. I'm usually just wrapped up in doing nothing. [A beat.] Which I'm not paid for, anyway, so it doesn't really matter, right?
futurebatwoman: ([FA] smiling over shoulder)

c: no thank youuu

[personal profile] futurebatwoman 2012-12-02 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Or they disappear, or whatever. But eventually you find your niche. It's not really a bad place most of the time. [ There's not as much heart in that statement as normal, but she can still make it and mean it at least mostly. There's that. ] I definitely will. Promised him I'd show up, so I have to tell him what I think of the pie.

If you're not paid for it, I think you're allowed to do whatever you want with your time. I mean, so long as it's not illegal.
hexappeal: (this is where i 1up you.)

thank us!! c:

[personal profile] hexappeal 2012-12-03 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been here just short of three years, so I can agree to that. [She won't mention that it's different when all your friends seem to disappear one after another and you feel like you're left with no one. Because that's only sometimes.] Ah, well! I'd recommend a little bit of everything in that case! It's all wonderful. I'm a huge fan of the pecan, but I know that's not for everyone.

I think that you're my new best friend.

[ Three years. It seemed like such a long time when she first heard it, and now it still seems long but not quite as bad anymore. ] You'd have to be happy with it after three years or life would just kind of suck a lot. And I will definitely be trying at least the pecan, if not more.

Yeah? That sounds fun.
