A SAVAGE LAND FOR A SAVAGE NIGHT
WHO: EVERYONE OF ALL AGES
WHERE: The Xavier Institute
WHEN: June 15th, early evening to all night long!
WARNINGS: Who knows! Language is likely, violence is possible, dancing is mandatory.
SUMMARY: prom night prom night gotta get down on prom night
FORMAT: MINGLE
As you enter through the doors of the Danger Room, the sound of cicadas chirping clues you into your arrival to a tropical paradise. Red and orange lights show a room transformed, vines all along the walls and trees that seem to reach the beyond the ceiling. There's no doubt now, you're deep in the heart of the jungle. You can almost feel the heat of a distant volcano, the humidity wafting in from a river just outside, but that's only your imagination. Luckily, someone had the foresight to bring an exterminator into this jungle beforehand, as there isn't a bug in sight.
Fierce papier mache dinosaurs look down on your throughout the room, some perhaps planning their next meal, others regarding the intruders to their home with something not unlike fear. From the stage, the gleaming jaws of a downed Tyrannosaurus look on at the partiers, hungry even in its taxidermied stated.
But there's one ornament that stands above them all: the mirrored surface of what appears to be a pterodactyl man, reflecting the lights all across the room in ways most disco balls only wish they could.
Welcome to the Savage Land. Hope you survive the experience!

[ and just as she says it, her own gaze drifts down to their feet before she catches it, looking back to rose. why did she have to say that? now kanaya's worried too. she honestly hopes that if anyone does any toe-stepping, it's rose. she can handle having her toe stepped on, but doing the stepping herself would be mortifying. ]
no subject
How can I possibly look at you if I'm worried about your toes?
no subject
My toes are strong, I'm sure they'll withstand whatever punishment you may hypothetically dish out. You really needn't spare them the concern.
no subject
[Seeing smile and laugh is good for easing the tension out of her shoulders. It takes the edge out of things and makes them feel as close to normal as possible. Certainly more than they have in the last few months. ]
no subject
[ that'll do it, kanaya, give her some smugness and false bravado so you don't have to look nervous. because it is true, this is...almost comfortable. she isn't used to that, especially with how long it's taken to get back to this point. she's a little afraid to do anything further, just out of fear that the moment will be gone before she knows it.
so she tries to just follow where the dance leads, to ignore the sound of her heart beating in her ears, to keep that smirk fixed in place. ]
no subject
[they are having a moment, she realizes. this is an actual, real life moment. this is a romcom moment that is happening between then.
she is suddenly flustered on the inside. ]
no subject
if that is the case, she bites her lip to keep herself from saying anything to ruin it. maybe if she doesn't do anything at all other than what she already is, she can make the moment last. ]
no subject
Ah - I somehow forgot the same song doesn't play continuously.
no subject
So, should we, uh... [ she wants to say get drinks, she wants to not say continue the dance anyway, but she doesn't say anything at all. she's finally done it, she's finally frozen up. ]
no subject
[Well this is awkward. Rose freezes up, shoulders tense and her expression embarrassed. ]
I - we could. Uhm?
[Eloquent. ]
no subject
...You know. [ get off the dancefloor, she means. she looks around, suddenly painfully aware of everyone else around them, but most of them seem too caught up in the dancing to pay the two of them any mind.
the most honest part of her is jealous, but it's buried under too much panic to notice. ]
no subject
[Smooth. Should they get drinks? Should they keep dancing? Rose has no idea. Slow dancing seems like it might be too intimate for her to really take right now. ]
no subject
no subject
[Rose tries to back up and sort of stumbles on her dress. This is terrible. ]
no subject
Here, let me help. We can't...get drinks if we can't manage at least to walk first.
no subject
[She did. She squeezes Kanaya's hand lifts her dress with the other. ] Alright. Yes, okay, drinks. Let's walk.
no subject
And yet you never once came close to stepping on my foot. [ that is not leaving dancing behind, kanaya. ]
no subject
[They are still on the dancefloor. Unchained Melody is still playing; Rose feels a little giddy from the flustered way her hearts thumping away in her chest. ]
no subject
[ she gives her a soft smile, looking deep in her eyes. overwrought phrases fill her mind, something ridiculous about "being lost in pools of lavender". the music swells, and she's pulled back by it. as her heart clenches, she turns to look away, her face turning a pale shade of green.
she mutters to herself: ] We absolutely must get out of here.
no subject
Rose needs a drink. She needs five drinks. Maybe all of them water. Maybe she can pour one of them over herself to cool her heated face down. ]
We were getting a drink, weren't we? Of course we were.
no subject
Yes, drinks! Maybe...I can get drinks for us while you wait. You know. Somewhere. [ maybe asking her out tonight was a mistake. maybe things are getting too real. ]
no subject
[Rose is hesitant to stop walking. What if they end up stuck again? Awkwardly lingering on the edge of the dancefloor, staring even more awkwardly into one-another's eyes.
She keeps walking. ]
Perhaps, while you get the drinks, I will get us some snacks.
no subject
[ she turns about to look around, still walking, not about to miss a step for the world. she finds a spot against the wall that seems in plain enough view and with enough people nearby to reduce any temptation. she wastes no time in pointing. ]
Over there!
no subject
I - well. I'll see you soon?
[Possibly the lamest thing to say when she's only getting punch. But, irregardless - Rose leaves her and heads towards the designated waiting point. To wait. ]
no subject
she takes her own leave, heading on to the punchbowl and whatever may await her there. she's sorry that you'll never get that drink, rose. ]
