WHO: Wanda Maximoff and YOU (seriously, come play with me right now, yes I mean you)
WHERE: an open-air market, somewhere in The City
WHEN: at any point this afternoon
WARNINGS: none!
SUMMARY: Wanda has wandered off on her own and stumbled upon something a little more familiar.
FORMAT: quicklog, or whatever, I’m flexible
[Wanda had been reluctant to venture out of the MAC alone, but Pietro had not answered the door when she knocked, and she really should at least attempt navigation on her own, for once. Of course, having a destination in mind wouldn’t have hurt, but she was not far past the streets she had walked previously when she stumbled upon a delightful little open-air market, all squished-up between two towering brick structures.]
[With a pleased little smile playing about her features, Wanda slips into the crowd -- it is not so frightening as those on the streets were, somehow -- and proceeds to lose herself in the simple task of bargain-hunting.]

Oh.. um, yes, I.. yes.
[What more is there to say than that? She doesn't know enough about the other imPorts to defend herself against whatever the locals believe about them.]
no subject
Sorry, I wasn't trying to...
[He's not actually sure how that question upset her, so he'll let her fill in the blank for whatever it was he did exactly.]
what appropriate keywords!
--Oh, I thought.. I'm sorry, I'm very new here, and I was told.. I heard that people here did not like the imported..
asdf Ahahaha, for once.
[He looks kind of surprised to hear that.]
No one mentioned anything like that to me. Then again, I haven't been here for too long myself.
no subject
[She pauses.]
Wait, are you.. you're an import, as well?
no subject
[He'll also take a moment to dig out his own communicator and show it to her, just to offer some proof]
I am.
no subject
Either there are more of us than I realize, or our meeting defies all odds.
[She shifts her basket fully onto one arm so she can offer him a newly-freed hand.]
I am Wanda Maximoff.
no subject
[He tucks his communicator away so he can then shake the offered hand.]
Connor Hawke. It's nice to meet you, Wanda.
no subject
[Her hand is soft, but her grip is solid enough, and she smiles up at him with bright, clear eyes.]
It is good to meet you, too.
no subject
[His hands are probably just all callous...y. It tends to happen when you're an archer. But since she seems determined to give a strong handshake, he'll give one back, nothing bone crunching, but he'll go ahead and scrap the idea of treating her like her hand will break off if he's not gentle. He'll also offer a friendly smile back, it's always great to meet nice people.]
no subject
[Absently, she sidles over a bit to get out of the way of flowing market traffic]
What brings you to the market, anyway? [grin] Or were you just looking to knock over innocent shoppers for a lark?
no subject
And not at all. [He holds up his hands in front of him, palms out and the apologetic look is back] I've actually recently taken up to wandering around the city on a never ending search for a job.
no subject
[A beat, and then her smile is back, full-force.] A job? I thought that we were brought here to do a specific job -- and, besides that, provided with a stipend? Or are you not the "heroing" sort, either?
no subject
I'm sorry to hear that. That must be pretty confusing.
Ah, no, I actually did the hero thing full time back home, but there I didn't really have to worry about money.
[He pauses for a second.]
And I did some volunteer work form time to time, so I actually felt like I was at least pulling my share. Even if we're giving some money for saving people, it doesn't feel right. That's something I always felt you did for free. Besides that, most of the people I'm living with right now barely know me, I feel kind of like a freeloader there if I'm not doing more than running around the city at night stopping muggers.
no subject
[murmurs] You are very noble, Connor.
no subject
It's not that noble. I'm in a sort of weird situation, and I guess it just seems like common courtesy to try to repay the people that are giving me a room.
no subject
By risking your life regularly to protect them? That is a hefty rent, don't you think?
no subject
[He scratches the back of his head, trying to look casual about the fact that he's basically talking about running around shooting arrows at purse snatchers]
That's more of a bad habit I picked up from my dad, that I don't think will ever really die.
no subject
Is that how it works? I've always wondered where heroes came from -- I suppose legacy makes as much sense as anything.
no subject
I think most heroes strike out on their own though, which is probably a lot more admirable.
no subject
no subject
I guess so. And there are worse people I could have followed after.
no subject
You are lucky to have such a role model.
[pause]
Where are you headed, anyway? I mean, now, not.. abstractly.
no subject
[Connor glaces the way he was heading before he stopped to talk.]
No where in particular. I'm just trying to get as well acquainted with the City during the day as I can.
no subject
We share a common goal, then. Perhaps we should travel together.
