A SAVAGE LAND FOR A SAVAGE NIGHT
WHO: EVERYONE OF ALL AGES
WHERE: The Xavier Institute
WHEN: June 15th, early evening to all night long!
WARNINGS: Who knows! Language is likely, violence is possible, dancing is mandatory.
SUMMARY: prom night prom night gotta get down on prom night
FORMAT: MINGLE
As you enter through the doors of the Danger Room, the sound of cicadas chirping clues you into your arrival to a tropical paradise. Red and orange lights show a room transformed, vines all along the walls and trees that seem to reach the beyond the ceiling. There's no doubt now, you're deep in the heart of the jungle. You can almost feel the heat of a distant volcano, the humidity wafting in from a river just outside, but that's only your imagination. Luckily, someone had the foresight to bring an exterminator into this jungle beforehand, as there isn't a bug in sight.
Fierce papier mache dinosaurs look down on your throughout the room, some perhaps planning their next meal, others regarding the intruders to their home with something not unlike fear. From the stage, the gleaming jaws of a downed Tyrannosaurus look on at the partiers, hungry even in its taxidermied stated.
But there's one ornament that stands above them all: the mirrored surface of what appears to be a pterodactyl man, reflecting the lights all across the room in ways most disco balls only wish they could.
Welcome to the Savage Land. Hope you survive the experience!

she's determined to have fun whether she likes it or not. ]
no subject
But if she is going to embarrass herself, she would rather do it with Kanaya than on her own. ]
May I have this dance?
no subject
she takes a deep breath and holds out her hand, palm down for rose to lead. ]
Alright. Just this one, I suppose.
no subject
[For what won't be the first time tonight, Rose wishes she had thought to bring liquid courage. Eight months is a long time. She takes Kanaya's hand in her own and places one against her waist.
Leading seems like a terrible daunting task when sober. Even more so with so much drama between them. ]
no subject
[ dancing on its own is daunting enough, but it isn't just anyone kanaya would trust to lead her. she places her hand on rose's shoulder as the music kicks up. a bit classic, but lively.
she takes a deep breath, letting the moment sink in. at least it wasn't a slow dance, she'd have been in deeper trouble with that. ]
no subject
Then we are both equally flattered. I think that is just enough flattery to make sure we look adorable dancing, especially if I step on your toes by accident.
[She hopes to go she doesn't step on her toe. She wishes, for a brief moment, she had asked for dancing lessons to go along with her violin. ]
no subject
[ and just as she says it, her own gaze drifts down to their feet before she catches it, looking back to rose. why did she have to say that? now kanaya's worried too. she honestly hopes that if anyone does any toe-stepping, it's rose. she can handle having her toe stepped on, but doing the stepping herself would be mortifying. ]
no subject
How can I possibly look at you if I'm worried about your toes?
no subject
My toes are strong, I'm sure they'll withstand whatever punishment you may hypothetically dish out. You really needn't spare them the concern.
no subject
[Seeing smile and laugh is good for easing the tension out of her shoulders. It takes the edge out of things and makes them feel as close to normal as possible. Certainly more than they have in the last few months. ]
no subject
[ that'll do it, kanaya, give her some smugness and false bravado so you don't have to look nervous. because it is true, this is...almost comfortable. she isn't used to that, especially with how long it's taken to get back to this point. she's a little afraid to do anything further, just out of fear that the moment will be gone before she knows it.
so she tries to just follow where the dance leads, to ignore the sound of her heart beating in her ears, to keep that smirk fixed in place. ]
no subject
[they are having a moment, she realizes. this is an actual, real life moment. this is a romcom moment that is happening between then.
she is suddenly flustered on the inside. ]
no subject
if that is the case, she bites her lip to keep herself from saying anything to ruin it. maybe if she doesn't do anything at all other than what she already is, she can make the moment last. ]

He's trying very hard not to look flighty about the whole situation, but the noises and the lights and everything else kinda... Yeah. Let's be frank, he's flighty as fuck and doing a shitty job disguising that fact.]
no subject
Astral, that's a lovely dress! Where did you get it?

[ but they both look fabulous and she smiles at that, self-satisfied. ]
I hope you're enjoying the night so far.

[ and she holds out a hand for him. ]
no subject
Assuming she leads him out to the dance floor, he's going to be promptly puzzled and watching other people's feet. He mimics that, right?] How do we know when to start? [The music is already playing... Do they wait for the next song?]

That's okay, take your time. You'll get the hang of it.

We have at least to the end of this song, but you can always try another if this one doesn't work for you.
[ she has another idea, and holds her hands out for him. ] Here, take my hands. We can try to move at the proper rhythm together.
