Bakura's Birthday Shindig [OPEN]

SUMMARY: Bakura's turning 20! Time for all the fluffballs and assholes who know and like him to party. And collect delicious random CR from each other.

The last-minute party is ready to go. Momiji had been entrusted with the decorations, the cake is coming with Maggie, and food and drink are in the process of being set out. The Mancave is still in pristine form, with arcade games and console games hooked up to the giant TV, and poor Pierre still surviving well enough in his tank. Alastair has his longest techno playlist pumping through the stereo. All they need now is the birthday boy himself!

Oh, and Vector, Alastair has a request for you. Something about space bridges, Tokyo, and January.

Off in Bakura's room where the clueless waits

Bakura had been pretty distracted most of the day, lost in thought. He wasn't really expecting anyone to remember and the whole "turning 20" thing had been weighing pretty heavily on his mind.

So. Who's gonna go tell the birthday boy someone pulled a surprise birthday party on him?

Ah, modern technology. Alastair waited until the right moment, and then pulled out his cell phone and called Bakura's.

"Hey. I'm down the hall, c'mere - there's something on TV I want you to see."

"Which channel?"

No point in heading down the hall if he could just turn it on in his apartment, right?

Maggie very carefully had carried the cake all the way to Hell Towers, in its homemade cardboard cake box (paper mastery has some awesome practical uses).

Having been let into the apartment moments before, she is carefully setting the cake on the table. Encircled in strawberries, carefully written in chocolate gel icing, are the words "Happy birthday Bakura" in Japanese.

There's a look of wonder on Bakura's face when he spots it, wonder and something much harder to define that makes his eyes almost water with the near overwhelming feeling.

The look on Bakura's face is thanks enough, but of course she frets that no one will like it.

"Happy birthday," she says. "I hope it's okay," she adds, nodding toward the cake.

Alastair really hadn't said hi while he was making sure everything was set up, but once he had time, he stopped to have a look at the cake.

"Nice," he said with some surprise and genuine interest. "I think he'll really like it."

"Thank you very much," Maggie said shyly.

"And thank you for organizing everything. Did you get a lot of help?"

Joel zipped over right after work, stopping at home to get changed and pick up his gift for Bakura. Now that he's arrived and been let in, Joel's placed the gift (several boxes of tea from different places around the world and a small box of duel monsters booster packs) with the others and gone to find his friend. Of course once he finds Bakura, there's a sudden hug.

"Happy Birthday, Bakura."

Bakura near blushed at the sudden hug, looking utterly embarrassed. "How did you find out?"

It was almost a shy question. He hadn't wanted a fuss made, after all, but having it be made... it was a very warm feeling.

"Your brother told me," Joel replied with a smile. "He was behind the whole party," he added. "Enjoying it so far?"

Mokuba got in early, sneaking down the hall to hide his present for Bakura in the Mancave. And, while he wasn't good enough to make a cake all by himself, he knew Bakura well enough to get him cream puffs.

He beamed at the older boy as he entered. "Otanjoubi omedetou!"

Oh man, even Mokuba? What, had Alastair told the whole world?

"Thank you, Mokuba-kun!" he smiled, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.

Birthdays are times for hugs, so Mokuba presented one to Bakura.

"Is being 20 really cool?"

After a bit of just lounging around being cool, Alastair made his way over to poke at the younger Kaiba brother. "S'up, Mokuba?"

The last time he had seen Alastair in person he had thrown a tantrum. So this was very awkward.

He settled for a neutral "Hi, Alastair."

Although he really wanted to make up, he wasn't quite sure how to go about it. Niisama wasn't exactly the best role model there.

Momiji's off in a corner, admiring his handiwork on the rather interesting decorations. Which are mostly baby blue and ruffled. He even stayed away from pink just for Bakura.

"Your choice?" Bakura asked with a warm smile. Since he was preeety sure Alastair wouldn't have a thing to do with anything ruffly.

[Marco is the snackman. He had rounded up the normal party supply of starch and salt earlier and left them out for the guests, but is currently stationed in the kitchen, making sure the night would have a proper meal. A little behind schedule, he is busy making a large pot of sauce to go with the that was draining in the sink. He... is definitely going to need help portioning this all out.]
