The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

The dress is but a component of the overall outfit. Of course, nothing can be done on my part to prevent your predilections from being so tacky as to believe they may have succeeded in a grouping, but being made to expend the effort in forging them doe inspire some degree of expectation that they would at least be put to use.

[ It's a sign of real friendship, or whatever it is that Vriska and John have, that Vriska is willing to mimic John's horribly embarrassing dance movements. ]

[ Well at least John stops for a moment to have a conversation with Karkat. He seems completely unbothered by all the insults Karkat just lobbed at him. Probably because he's so used to being insulted by him at this point it's kind of hard to take offense.

Instead he'll just do what he does best and poke fun back at him. ]

Oh wow! Are you concerned for me, Karkat?

[ she just looks off to the side awkwardly and gives a little shrug ]

No, uh, I suppose it would be best if I wasn't.

If you'll be maintaining this vigil, perhaps you'd prefer some punch to sustain you through it. It has something of a quaint aftertaste, but it's perfectly serviceable otherwise.

More importantly, it gives you the appearance of some occupation, rather than the idle and visible observance you've been practicing thus far.

[ Pointing over to where the majority if the dancing is taking place. ]

[ carol turns to look at kate and gives her a big smile. wow does she pull off the suit look well. ]

I've got a lot of ties to the school, and since it's more or less an open thing, I figured I might as well pop in. Maybe do some unofficial chaperoning.

[Or it's a sign that Vriska is horribly uneducated in the ways of dancing and John is taking advantage of it by teaching her really stupid dance moves. She's eyeing him pretty skeptically though as she follows the instruction.]

Should I assume this is going to be par for course every conversation we have?

I made that outfit for tonight. You, being aware of this fact, knew that you would be unable to acquire the other pieces if I was aware you would be withholding them for this evening. [ could it be thoughtlessness? probably! but kanaya's going to attribute malice and deceit anyway. ]

[Her lips turn down into a frown. Her patience, which isn't very good to begin with, is beginning to wear very thin with this conversation.]

I was going to wear them, I already told you they looked like shit together, which is why I didn't.

And if I had? You'd be nagging my ass about how I made your outfit look tacky with my poor fashion taste because you're the expert on that apparently. Either way you'd be fussing at me for something, so I went with the option I liked better.

You can have the jewelry back if it's such a big deal.

That's exactly the problem! Everyone is up in arms over this and it's none of their business in the first place! Everyone wants to meddle and fuss and get in my business.

[ She takes a sip of her drink, then eyes the glass a little. ]

Chaperoning here... and trying to make sure nobody spikes the punch.

_{( Damian had accompanied her dutifully, fedora pulled down over his eyes. He was in a decidedly better mood since Dick had reappeared earlier that week, but now he stood next to Nill with his back against the wall and his hands in his pockets. )}

_{( Damian spots her about halfway through the night and approaches casually. He's not really sure why he's saying hi, but he still finds her intriguing enough to acknowledge. )}

_{( When Damian sees her, he sneers a bit. Only she'd wear something that bright and colorful. But she's someone familiar, so eventually he'll make his way over. )}

Oh. It's you.

[Charlie smirks at Damian...and his suit.]

Your like a tiny mob boss, D.

_{( Damian, who has done his television-research about prom, is glad he isn't the only one under the age of fourteen to be dragged to this one. He can't say much for Aaron's fashion choices, however. )}
