A Night in West Egg

The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

[Jessica is pretty much the first one on the dance floor. She loves dancing and will dance to every single song, with people or alone. And she's not bad either, so, there's that.]

[It's been a long night and Peter has consumed a lot of punch. Punch that isn't quite as non-alcoholic as he thinks it is. This might have something to do with why the DJ's next round of theme appropriate music inspires the normally dance-averse Mr. Parker to do his un-level best to get his Charleston on. And eventually a one-man version of the Lindy Hop.

The alcohol may have helped with his inhibitions, his spider-powers with his coordination, but there may be no salvaging that sense of rhythm.]

[ kanaya has worked hard to bring this night to fruition, with countless preparations, getting everyone dressed and here, and now that it's all done she is damn sure going to enjoy it.

she may not be much of a dancer, but still she ventures out to the floor, hoping to catch some eyes and have a good time. ]

Probably classier than what John would pick for himself. So yes. John is in a suit of some sort or another and is also out here attempting to dance.

Even though she wasn't sure what to expect, Aradia is enjoying herself. She's taking a break by the canapes after spending a little while dancing, eyes peeled for anyone she knows that she can drag into having fun.

[Angelica is on refreshment guard duty, sipping from a glass of (non-alcoholic!) punch as she watches the kids boogie down.]

Luckily for everyone involved, Julian came prepared for just such a dilemma, and is standing in front of the bowl while his powers oh-so-subtly open and tip the contents of a flask in here. Totally smooth. You can all thank him later. ]

[ Alex had a difficult time wrapping his head around his willingness to attend prom with Kate. They were dressed loudly in purple tuxedos with hats and fake mustaches. Kate had a monocle and he had a cane. He's certain his father somewhere is rolling somewhere in Hades.

Right now, he is standing in front of the table with the bowl of punch staring down at it unimpressed. ]

[ Never let it be said that chaperone duty doesn't come with a few perks of its own. Dick has the run of this end of the snack table, and for now he's pretty content to chill by the sidelines, working on a second cupcake and eying the kids from a fairly safe, hopefully unobtrusive distance. How far away high school seems now. ]

[Charlie had been dancing earlier but now she was taking a break, standing by the drinks table in her flapper dress, twirling her sash around her arm as she sipped some punch and watched the prom. She hadn't been all that excited about the dance, but it was fun so far!]

[After dancing for quite a time, Rikku made her way off the dance floor, shoes swinging by the straps from one of her hands. She was grinning widely, her cheeks were flushed a bit, and she looked completely ecstatic.]

[Nill wasn't quite anxious. She was just very excited, and not sure how to handle it. This was the first prom that she actually understood: the dancing, the gossip, the way you looked all mattered. Nill wasn't much of a dancer, couldn't participate very well in the gossip. But she thought she had dressed well enough. She hadn't yet gone dancing, instead heading to the refreshment table to see if there was anything to nibble on.]

[He's supposed to be chaperoning, but Hank finds himself eyeing the snacks instead, helping himself to a slice of pie or two. It doesn't take much to satisfy him.]

[ he tugs awkwardly at his shirt sleeve. he is not particularly thrilled to be here, and is uncomfortably watching the humans and miscellaneous others flail around in time to music from the sidelines. he hunches his shoulders and grumbles to himself- even with no one around to hear it, quietude is not one of his strong points. ]

I can't believe I let her talk me into coming to this loonyplank shitrumpus.

[Tom couldn't believe that he was here right now. He felt out of place, being the the oldest guy here that wasn't a chaperone, who was invited and in the company of one of the students... Graduate student now, but student nonetheless.

He's just sitting on the sides, watching everyone else have fun and trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.]

[ carol is really enjoying this whole prom thing, especially with this theme. as is evidenced by her dress and the smile that doesn't leave her face. she sticks to the sidelines quite a bit, sipping some non-spiked punch and watching the kids have fun. it's their night after all. ]

[ Not so much being a wallflower as doing her job as a chaperone and keeping an eye on the bustling crowd. She makes out Nill, wherever she is in the room, and smiles a little to herself. Besides, it's hard to be a wallflower when you're dressed up all fancy. ]

[After so long, Tom finally needed a break from the flashing lights and pop music, so he stepped outside for some fresh air... Or about as fresh as one could get while smoking. And since he's alone, or so he thinks, he's pulling a flask out of his coat pocket and having a quick drink too.]

[ Kurt's all grins and very amused at the microphone, here. He clears his throat and flips open the note he's holding with the slightest bit of dramatic flair. ]

Now... Ladies first, of course. I expect all manners of noisy appreciation for your prom queen. [ Pause for effect! ] Miss Nill! Come on up here, Nill. Don't be shy.

[ He'll wait for a moment, letting the applause go and looking out for Nill. ]
