A Night in West Egg

The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

[She runs a hand through his hair as the kiss ends.]

When do I not want to dance? [She says with an answering smirk and hopes the spiked punch will be the only incident tonight.]

Do you still remember how to dance?

[hellionated]

[ It's...probably not gonna be the only incident, but he'll make up for that later. Most likely.

He tilts his head towards the dance floor and starts off for it. ]

Please. I was always good at this, you know it. You just never wanted to come clean about it.

[wind_dancer]

You're good occasionally. [She smiles as she walks passed him and on to the dance floor first. She holds her hand out to him.]

Especially when I teach you how to move.

[hellionated]

[ There's the briefest hesitation, but he takes that hand and pulls her in close. It feels natural after a couple of seconds. ]

That's why I always said you should teach me. You know I'm a fast learner.

[wind_dancer]

If I am going to teach you Julian, you need to start wearing one of those open front shirts.

[She settles her other hand on his arm. There is a smirk on her face.]

All male dancers wear them.

[hellionated]

[ He looks at her blankly for a minute, then realizes what she means and laughs. ]

You want to teach me salsa? I don’t think that’s prom style, beautiful. You better let me lead. [ He twirls her around, into the middle of the crowd. ]

[wind_dancer]

I will teach you that another night.

[She promises as her body becomes pliant, letting him lead and indulging in a Prom moment.]

What will you do if you get named Prom King tonight?

[hellionated]

[ He snerks and rolls his eyes. She might not see that, though, since he's also leaning in and putting his head part of the way against her cheek. ]

Wear the crown like I was born to it. And then throw it away cause it's stupid.

You'd make a good queen, though. Do you want to win?

[wind_dancer]

Not before I take a photograph. [If he wins this is an event that needs recorded okay for those embarrassing moments when stories are shared with people.

She laughs.]

Not really, I'm not the biggest fan of popularity contests. I will keep the crown if I do win.

[hellionated]

Did you bring a camera with you? [ He leans back a little, raising an eyebrow and running his eyes over her dress again. Because looking for a camera is definitely the only reason to do that, yep. ] I can’t see where you’re hiding it. [ Smirking. ] Do I get to search?

[wind_dancer]

You can search for it later. [Sofia smirks back.] You will have to hunt thoroughly for it Julian.

[hellionated]

I don't see a problem with that. [ He leans close again, settling against her. ] I'll take my time. You know, to make sure I'm thorough.

[wind_dancer]

[She presses a little firmer against him.] If I think you are thorough enough there will be something in it for you.

[hellionated]

[ In that case, he'll close the distance left between them and kiss her. ] I'll leave nothing unturned.

[wind_dancer]

We should go home shortly after the Prom King and Queen are announced.

[Her mind is not on the prom and dancing anymore.]

[hellionated]

[ Soft laughter, close to her ear. ] I don't hate that plan.
