The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

[ he tugs awkwardly at his shirt sleeve. he is not particularly thrilled to be here, and is uncomfortably watching the humans and miscellaneous others flail around in time to music from the sidelines. he hunches his shoulders and grumbles to himself- even with no one around to hear it, quietude is not one of his strong points. ]

Well, he already looks uncomfortable. That means it's just about the right time for Julian to go say hello. So he smirks, and comes up behind Karkat. ]

So, she said yes after all, huh? That's nice for you.

[ kanaya slides up in a very red dress, looking outrageously smug ]

And what activity would you entertain yourself with if I hadn't? Brooding with some cinematic presentation you've already viewed on numerous occasions already?

[Okay, she had finally tried dancing. And except for one minutely crushed wing, she had liked it well enough. But she had decided that maybe it was time for a break, at least for a few moments. So she headed towards the wall, and almost immediately spotted Karkat. Her wings and face perked up, and the blonde made her way to him, waving with a smile, smoothing her dress with her unoccupied hand.]

[Even if this isn't her thing, there's no way she's going to pass up a chance to give Karkat shit.]

[Tom couldn't believe that he was here right now. He felt out of place, being the the oldest guy here that wasn't a chaperone, who was invited and in the company of one of the students... Graduate student now, but student nonetheless.

He's just sitting on the sides, watching everyone else have fun and trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.]

[ carol is really enjoying this whole prom thing, especially with this theme. as is evidenced by her dress and the smile that doesn't leave her face. she sticks to the sidelines quite a bit, sipping some non-spiked punch and watching the kids have fun. it's their night after all. ]

[ Kurt's gotten a little restless in trying to keep an eye on things for the moment, so he's doing a round a hellos and letting people know how nice they look. ]

How positively radiant you are. I do adore that smile.

[ If Kate were still single, she'd offer a cheesy pick-up line or flirt considering how drop dead gorgeous Carol looks tonight. She approaches from the side, a glass of punch in one hand. ]

[ Not so much being a wallflower as doing her job as a chaperone and keeping an eye on the bustling crowd. She makes out Nill, wherever she is in the room, and smiles a little to herself. Besides, it's hard to be a wallflower when you're dressed up all fancy. ]

[Little Kate breezes up to Big Kate, looking especially dapper in her purple tuxedo, top hat, monocle, and fake mustache.]

[ guess who brought a book with her this yaer?? Jess is just sitting on the side in a chair, reading some nerdy physics textbook leave me alone. she's wearing this hot mess (somehow managing to stick her giant hair under that hat thing) and at this point, is seriously waiting for this to be over.

[In the end, it was sheer curiosity that brought the ten-year-old to this Prom everyone spoke of. She had no date, but Max has insisted that this was okay. And there were some familiar faces around, though most seemed to be otherwise occupied at any given moment.]

[So, for the time being, she was content to watch from the closest thing to shadows she could find. Away from the spotlight. In a simple, yet appropriate dress she'd had a department store shopping assistant help her pick out.]

[CHAPERONING. not entirely of his own free will, either, so there's a disgruntled and hilariously era appropriate white blotch standing at the makeshift bar, arms crossed.

[Chaperoning may not have been the most glamorous of jobs, but Scathach was more than happy to help out. She knew that as the night went on, some of the other teachers would tire and lose focus--that was where she stepped in. Or would, if anything went wrong. But based on the looks she was getting from some of the students who knew her personally... she didn't think anything would. But she had dressed the part anyway, and was casually circling the dance floor.]

[Davesprite has abandoned his orange self this time for the public, though whether that's to confuse the fuck out of everyone else or to remain inconspicuous is anyone's guess. That doesn't stop him from giving off an orange citrus scent to anyone that happens to walk by him, however. At least he's managed to fight off the flock of birds that likes to follow him everywhere.

He's been spending most of his time watching a certain blue-eyed derp waltz around with one of the trolls and hasn't taken much time to do anything else. Dancing totally isn't his thing, and he's really only here to make sure she (and nobody else) tries anything funny.

So have a perfectly normal looking Strider staring straight out on the dancefloor -- thankfully the sunglasses hide exactly who and what he's staring at.]

[Vriska is leaning against the wall, shoes abandoned beside her. She's only wearing the silver bracelet, having decided three bracelets was too much but she kept them anyway. She's being a wallflower for now, since John wandered off somewhere and this isn't really her kind of scene to begin with. She shifts, playing it off as just shifting her weight and not that she was actually uncomfortable. She's itching to pull off her jewelry and take her hair down. This all feels so unnatural. But at least right now she doesn't feel like she's being watched by a certain asshole.]

Ugh.

anyway, he's trying really hard to wander around a little and not just space out in one spot or awkwardly follow nemesis, but he's also trying really hard to not look at anyone because if he didn't want to be anything it would be a spoilsport!! so he's gently bumping into everyone. no prob. ]

[Laura was standing off to the side of the dance, in a vaguely thematic black dress, holding a glass of punch and quietly watching the crowd. As a part time teacher she felt she should be here, but even without that, most of her friends were there as well. Not that she was dancing or...looked like she was enjoying herself.]

[But she didn't look unhappy either. Restless, perhaps.]
