The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

Even though she wasn't sure what to expect, Aradia is enjoying herself. She's taking a break by the canapes after spending a little while dancing, eyes peeled for anyone she knows that she can drag into having fun.

[ he tugs awkwardly at his shirt sleeve. he is not particularly thrilled to be here, and is uncomfortably watching the humans and miscellaneous others flail around in time to music from the sidelines. he hunches his shoulders and grumbles to himself- even with no one around to hear it, quietude is not one of his strong points. ]

I can't believe I let her talk me into coming to this loonyplank shitrumpus.

Let who talk you into it? [ Aradia appears behind him, cheerfully tapping him on the shoulder ]

[Angelica is on refreshment guard duty, sipping from a glass of (non-alcoholic!) punch as she watches the kids boogie down.]

[ Punch that isn't spiked? What kind of prom is this?

Luckily for everyone involved, Julian came prepared for just such a dilemma, and is standing in front of the bowl while his powers oh-so-subtly open and tip the contents of a flask in here. Totally smooth. You can all thank him later. ]

[ Oh hey, it's this guy. Didn't he say he wasn't coming?

Well, he already looks uncomfortable. That means it's just about the right time for Julian to go say hello. So he smirks, and comes up behind Karkat. ]

So, she said yes after all, huh? That's nice for you.

[ excuse her julian she is thirsty you are being very inconvenient and also dashing in a prom tux I mean what

anyway they've been getting along better recently, so she doesn't try to antagonize him yet ]

Hey, can I get through?

[Jessica is pretty much the first one on the dance floor. She loves dancing and will dance to every single song, with people or alone. And she's not bad either, so, there's that.]

[Tom couldn't believe that he was here right now. He felt out of place, being the the oldest guy here that wasn't a chaperone, who was invited and in the company of one of the students... Graduate student now, but student nonetheless.

He's just sitting on the sides, watching everyone else have fun and trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.]

[After so long, Tom finally needed a break from the flashing lights and pop music, so he stepped outside for some fresh air... Or about as fresh as one could get while smoking. And since he's alone, or so he thinks, he's pulling a flask out of his coat pocket and having a quick drink too.]

[ Oh, of course, she has to pick this exact moment. He stays where he is and grins at her. ]

[ JUST TIPPING THE REST OF THIS FLASK IN NOW. ]

[ Alex had a difficult time wrapping his head around his willingness to attend prom with Kate. They were dressed loudly in purple tuxedos with hats and fake mustaches. Kate had a monocle and he had a cane. He's certain his father somewhere is rolling somewhere in Hades.

Right now, he is standing in front of the table with the bowl of punch staring down at it unimpressed. ]

[ she rolls her eyes at him. what's he playing at? ] Very funny, Julian. Come on, I'm thirsty!

[It's been a long night and Peter has consumed a lot of punch. Punch that isn't quite as non-alcoholic as he thinks it is. This might have something to do with why the DJ's next round of theme appropriate music inspires the normally dance-averse Mr. Parker to do his un-level best to get his Charleston on. And eventually a one-man version of the Lindy Hop.

The alcohol may have helped with his inhibitions, his spider-powers with his coordination, but there may be no salvaging that sense of rhythm.]

[After all the fuss Ggio made to bring Tom here, he sure was quick to scamper off once it was apparent that Tom didn't want to dance or have any fun, it seemed.

Though honestly, the setting had Ggio anxious in a strange way, having not been to a party or something like this since his first few months in the City (the fiasco at the bar a few days ago didn't count, ugh). He covered that up by letting himself get dragged off by his several admirers once they spotted him.

But before too long, he's seeking out Tom, going by the scent of cigarettes and... booze?]

Do you want to get in trouble?

[Said mostly in teasing; his suit jacket seems to have gone missing, and judging by the loosened tiger-striped tie, unbuttoned collar and rolled up sleeves, Ggio's likely busted a move or two.]

[After metabolizing all his punch away on the dance floor, Peter beats a hasty retreat outside to cool down, and possibly hide his face for the rest of the evening. A quick tour of the garden later and he's settled down by the side of the fountain, jacket and fedora in a pile next to him, tie loosened, and head titled back to admire the light pollution.]

[Kate is feeling pretty awesome in her tuxedo. If anyone can pull off the look, it's her. She's just emerged from the bathroom, readjusting her mustache as she rejoins her date.]

Having fun yet?

[ He serves himself and Kate punch before looking over to her. ]

I'll get back to you on that. [ Hands her the glass of punch. ]

Thanks. [She takes a sip of the punch.] Try not to look so miserable for five minutes.

[ He makes goofy looking smile. ] Better?

You look like you're in pain. [She calls 'em like she sees 'em.]
