The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

[ He serves himself and Kate punch before looking over to her. ]

I'll get back to you on that. [ Hands her the glass of punch. ]

Thanks. [She takes a sip of the punch.] Try not to look so miserable for five minutes.

[ He makes goofy looking smile. ] Better?

You look like you're in pain. [She calls 'em like she sees 'em.]

That's because I am.

Come on, Alex. This isn't so bad. There's food, music, people to watch and gossip about. What more could you want?

You've seem to have mistaken me for a 17 year old girl.

[ a pause ]

It's not bad, I'm taking the time to adjust to this new environment. I'm not used to this.

People watching isn't just for girls.

And you'll get used to it. Regular social interaction'll do you a world of good.

Gossip is.

[ Drinks a bit of his punch ] I know I will.

And it's not like I'm some recluse. I do socialize on a fairly regular basis.

Not like this you don't. [She sips her drink again.] You just need to let loose. You should ask someone to dance.

[ He gives her a look. I thought we went over this, Kate. :| ]

No thanks, I'm fine like this.

[ No stop it, he's got a image to maintain! ]

Wow. The god of fun you are not. [She finishes the rest of her punch.]

[ He wrinkles his nose, the mustache isn't the most comfortable thing on his face. ]

Our definition of fun may not be the same thing. Besides, I thought my role was to just look good, which is exactly what I have been doing since we got here.

[She smooths her own mustache.] Okay, let me define it for you. Fun is you and me enjoying ourselves, separately or together. I've had my fun. I got you to wear this outfit and show up with me, and that's what I wanted. Now it's your turn. I mean, unless you really do enjoy standing here, looking awkward, in which case, carry on and tell me to hang.

[ Calmly ] I'll have my fun in due time, there's no need to push it.

And in the mean time?

Have another glass of punch and continue to have this conversation with you, I guess.

[She rolls her eyes at him, but seems tolerant and amused as she refills their cups.] We could sit?

People wouldn't be able to see our outfits as well if we sat down.

[ a beat ]

We could walk around and show off our neat purple suits some more. We did go out of our way for this, after all.

[She just stares at him a moment before offering him her arm, like a gentleman.] We do look rather dashing.

[ LMFghd...

he stares back at her blankly for a few seconds before adjusting his hat and taking her arm. ]

Yeah, we do.

[She grins at him as they start their parade. They are obviously the coolest kids at this prom and everyone should be jealous.]

The mustache looks good. Very convincing.

Convincing, yeah, with my blonde hair, I would definitely have a black mustache.
