A Night in West Egg

The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

[He points to her again. C'mon, Scatty, that's your cue!]

[Oh, Hank. She can't resist you. So with a grin, she starts in:]

[He holds out a hand and motions to the dancefloor.]

The world still is the same, you'll never chaaange it~ ♫

[symmachy]

[Nodding, the redhead takes his hand and lets him lead her.]

As sure as the stars shine above...♫

[professorlionface]

[And so, with a flourish, he twirls them out to dance.]

You're nobody til sooome-body loooooooves you~ ♪

[symmachy]

[She follows his lead.]

So find yourself somebody, find yourself somebody... ♪

[professorlionface]

[And he breaks one arm off to stretch it out with the final note.]

Go find yourself some-bo-dyyyy tooo loooooovve! ♫

[Quite a bit of space has been given to them by that point. Scatty can't help but grin.]

Bravo, Hank.

[professorlionface]

[He nudges her with his elbow and winks.]

Hey, couldn't have done it without you! That's the heart of a collaboration.

[symmachy]

[She nudges him back. It's awkward because he's so much bigger than she is.]

I've always enjoyed duets.

[professorlionface]

[But he's a good sport, so he feigns almost toppling over.]

Well, you're certainly no slouch with one! Done many in your time?

[symmachy]

[She laughs. And maybe looks a bit smug.]

Twice with Dean Martin himself, and three times with Elvis.

[professorlionface]

[The smugness is especially effective. He's completely flabbergasted.]

You're kidding!

[symmachy]

[Mission: Success.]

True story.

[professorlionface]

Well, now I absolutely insist that you tell me every detail!

[Depending on whether there's a commotion going on or not.]

[symmachy]

[WELL since it is something only mentioned in canon, I think there's a skirmish. And Scatty notices it, nodding in that general direction..]

I think it'll have to wait.

[professorlionface]

[He follows her eyeline and frowns.] Oh, stars and garters... Shame, I was looking forward to that story, too.

[And, with that, he's off!]
