A Night in West Egg

The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

I'm sure I can't be the guy you want to leave with. Which is definitely an outcome that could be arranged if the situation should happen to call for it. [ It's said with good humor, though. ]

Cupcakes are going fast, by the way.

First...dude! Ew! Say that some other way, please!

Second, gimme.

[She leaned past him to swipe a cupcake.]

[batmantled]

[ He hadn't quite meant it to come off the way she's taking it, so he rolls his eyes while his cheeks heat up, taking a step back to allow for better cupcake access. ] The ones on the end have the cream inside. I think they're hidden in the back for a reason.

[foreverbouncing]

Oooh.

[She turns back a moment later with two cream filled cupcakes. Because that much sugar in Charlie is such a good idea.]

So you bring a lady friend, copper?

[batmantled]

I'm here with Donna. [ He's eying those cupcakes and grinning. ]

And I don't know that she'd let you get away with two.

[foreverbouncing]

Reaaaaaally now. [Charlie looks suitably suspicious at that. And then she grins.]

Well it's a good thing she's not here at the moment, isn't it?

[And then a cupcake vanishes in about four bites.]

[batmantled]

[ he raises his eyebrows at that, then shakes his head. ]

I guess if I don't see it I can't take action based on hearsay.

[foreverbouncing]

Exactly. Plus it's just cupcakes. And you can't catch me anyway, I'm way too awesome.

[Charlie might have mellowed (a little tiny bit) over the last two years, but that boasting thing was still around when she was in a good mood. Or a really awful one. Either or.]
