A Night in West Egg

The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

[Midii recognized the familiar face off to one side. Looking about as comfortable in her surroundings as she was. Her own dress seemed to pale in comparison to Nill's adorable outfit...but, fortunately, Midii had never been particularly self-conscious about her appearance.]

[Still, she approached with a cautious smile. Hoping she wasn't interrupting.]

Hello, Nill.

[Nill smiles as she sees Midii approach, and raises a hand to wave. She thought the other girl looked very cute, to be honest. While red wasn't Nill's favorite color, Damian had chosen it, and so that was what she'd worn. She gestures to Midii's dress and nods approvingly.]

[A glance down at her own ensemble.]

Thank you.

Your dress...suits you. [She didn't know much about fashion, but she did know what mature looked like. And Nill, at that moment, looked very mature.]

[The mute girl couldn't help but grin at that. She was glad that people approved. She had been worried, at first, about such a bright color. But she had ended up looking good, if she did say so herself.]

Are you enjoying yourself?

[Personally, Midii found the whole Prom experience to be underwhelming and unimpressive. But she was no so cold that she couldn't gleam some pleasure in a friend's enjoyment of the evening.]

[Nill is quick to nod. Yes, she loved prom! She loved getting together with a bunch of people to dance, that is. While the blonde didn't normally like crowds, as she had gotten older, this had become one type of event that she actually enjoyed.]

[As suspected, it was hard not to smile after that answer.]

I am glad you are having a good time.

Did you come here by yourself? Or do you have a date?

[Nill shakes her head, and then scans the crowd quickly for Damian. When she sees him across the room near a wall, she points him out.]

[She glances over, surprised when she realizes Nill is motioning to Damian.]

Damian?

I would have thought you would come here with Robin. [Because somebody has yet to learn of the whole 'secret identity' business, and still believes Robin and Damian were two separate boys.]

[Oh. Well.

Nill shrugs, not sure what to say to that. She knew that Damian didn't tell people that he was Robin, and she wasn't about to do it for him.]

...no matter.

I am glad you have someone with you.

[She smiles. Nill gestures to Midii to reciprocate the question; did she have a date?]

[She shakes her head.]

No.

I am here by myself.

[Nill doesn't seem fazed by this answer, she just nods. She didn't think there was anything wrong with going to a dance alone.]

[At first, Midii had been uncertain about it. The information she'd received over the network made it sound like not being asked was a sign of unimportance.]

[Now? She could care less.]

It does not matter, really.

Besides...with a few exceptions, I have found Prom to be on the boring side. I might leave in a little while if nothing else happens.
