The guests into an auditorium transformed. Through the magic of papier mache, the room has been decked out like a speakeasy, the refreshments laid out on a very makeshift bar that will not stock alcohol as long as they can prevent it. The whole room is cast with a cool blue light, and a jazz band's been hired to take the stage for an hour before leaving the rest of the evening to the DJ.

It was time to get this party started.

[Chaperoning may not have been the most glamorous of jobs, but Scathach was more than happy to help out. She knew that as the night went on, some of the other teachers would tire and lose focus--that was where she stepped in. Or would, if anything went wrong. But based on the looks she was getting from some of the students who knew her personally... she didn't think anything would. But she had dressed the part anyway, and was casually circling the dance floor.]

[Even though she had promised herself that she would stick it out, Scatty eventually had to leave the gym, if only for a few moments. The emotions in the room were definitely high, and not in a way that made her particularly comfortable. The evening was a welcome respite, and she took the time to start circling the Institute. While she was out, she might as well make sure nobody was getting into trouble outside the school. She twisted her ring around her finger idly as she went, almost lost in thought.]

[Nill wasn't quite anxious. She was just very excited, and not sure how to handle it. This was the first prom that she actually understood: the dancing, the gossip, the way you looked all mattered. Nill wasn't much of a dancer, couldn't participate very well in the gossip. But she thought she had dressed well enough. She hadn't yet gone dancing, instead heading to the refreshment table to see if there was anything to nibble on.]

[Okay, she had finally tried dancing. And except for one minutely crushed wing, she had liked it well enough. But she had decided that maybe it was time for a break, at least for a few moments. So she headed towards the wall, and almost immediately spotted Karkat. Her wings and face perked up, and the blonde made her way to him, waving with a smile, smoothing her dress with her unoccupied hand.]

[The troll had definitely caught Nill's eye almost as soon as she had entered with Damian. She was glad that he hadn't seemed to mind as she headed towards the other girl, tugging at her dress a little as she approached.]

They're coming along. Nill and I are going to Coney Island, and Bucky's taking me to the beach. [She seems pleased by both of these things.]

[Nill wasn't one to avoid adults she knew while in public. So, seeing Kate in her fancy suit, she pulled herself out of the dance floor to see her, waving. As soon as she got there, she twirled, letting Kate see her dress (even though she doubtlessly had, many times).]

[It's time to unveil the Prom King and Queen! Mr. Wagner & Mrs. Maximoff take center stage with the crowns at the ready!]

Attention, everybody! A moment of your time, please. We're ready to announce this year's prom king and queen!

[Cassie's wandering around. It isn't her school, but that doesn't stop her. Despite what people think, she actually likes parties. They're great for people-watching and Cassie's always watching people.

Like Charlie, who looks happy. Which makes Cassie happy.]

[Davesprite has abandoned his orange self this time for the public, though whether that's to confuse the fuck out of everyone else or to remain inconspicuous is anyone's guess. That doesn't stop him from giving off an orange citrus scent to anyone that happens to walk by him, however. At least he's managed to fight off the flock of birds that likes to follow him everywhere.

He's been spending most of his time watching a certain blue-eyed derp waltz around with one of the trolls and hasn't taken much time to do anything else. Dancing totally isn't his thing, and he's really only here to make sure she (and nobody else) tries anything funny.

So have a perfectly normal looking Strider staring straight out on the dancefloor -- thankfully the sunglasses hide exactly who and what he's staring at.]

[ kanaya stares with curiosity, absently stroking her own upper lip ]

Now, that is a maneuver which wouldn't be possible without the decorative appendage.

[Nill had been taking a break from the dance floor for a few minutes by the time she spotted Davesprite. But once she did, the blonde basically dodged her way through the crowd to step up beside him, gently poking him in the shoulder in case he hadn't noticed her, what with staring off into space and all.]

[He doesn't turn right away, but when he does, he's taken a bit by surprise to find Nill there in that bangin' dress and heels. Right. Prom. Fancy clothes.]

[Focus Strider, the eyes are higher.]

[WOW SOMEONE'S A LAZY LOSER no its fine its called scrolling up. He doesn't look at Jess right away, still staring where he was staring before.]

Nah. Besides, they finish off the look.

[--wait. Female voice. Things he should pay attention to. He'll turn his head to give her eye contact. Sort of. Another nice feature of sunglasses, nobody can actually tell where your eyes are.]

[ Davesprite he hates you. He hates you so much right now, you have ruined his night to the point he can't even enjoy his time with Vriska. It's really creepy to try to dance with someone, to hang out with a friend when you constantly feel like you're being watched.

OKAY so he doesn't actually hate Davesprite right now, but he also doesn't know what Dave's deal is right now, and figures he might as well see what's up with the overprotective watchful guardian deal. He's left Vriska to her own devises (hopefully something he won't regret) to go heckle Davesprite for a bit. ]

[Oh awkward girls, that makes this easier. He watches her slide and then goes back to staring at the various crowd.]

Depends what your definition is. I don't go here, if that's what you mean.

[OR AT LEAST, HE'S TRYING TO...NOT GO HERE but John is a douche.]

[Nill takes her hand happily, excited to have the fashionista's approval. She had been more nervous about that than the actual dance, to be honest. And as soon as their hands meet, the blonde's power kicks in:]

[You're not allowed to hate him, you owe him mister.

Ok not really, he's not looking for a debt repaid deal, he just doesn't want you being a doofus niceguy gullible dumbass ok. So when John wanders over, he makes a point to stay staring perfectly straight ahead to try and give the illusion that he wasn't actually watching John the whole time.]
