(it is absolutely not common that you end up in the future for your birthday. in fact, despite the discrepancy with his own age back home, cross was actually milking this for all it was worth. when he found out that people actually give you free stuff. a little charm here and a little flirting there, he's got so much free stuff that he doesn't know what to do with it.

what's more, at the moment he's just too excited to spend his birthday not wondering if someone at a party is going to try and kill him. so, throwing caution to the wind, just let the party begin! he's in various locations doing various things.)

If you want to argue that. Where I'm from, the two are sort of the same; you might call me a sorcerer, I'd call myself a scientist. It's a lovely hybrid, I think.

(he holds his hands up, not paying? you twisted his arm.)

I suppose as the one side is better understood while the other hasn't been yet, the gulf between them has widened a bit. I don't believe it can't be bridged, but it can be a complicated relationship.

So, where are we going? [A few days earlier, he would've let Cross pay, but that time's passed already.]

Up to you, really. This is your hometown, not mine. (though if he could say so himself, there was a rather nice proimport bar that just rang a little close to home.)

Is it too early for a pint?

[professorlionface]

Hey, like I said, City that never sleeps. It's never too early on your birthday, if you don't have other obligations.

[He steps away from the fence, turning to the walking path.] I know of a few decent places, why don't we see if we can't manage something?

By all means, lead the way. Except wait - (he reaches into his hair and pulls out a cigarette before feeding it to Timcampy.)

We can't take Timcampy, he'll eat the place out of house and home.

[professorlionface]

[He gives the golem another look, a bit skeptical now.]

Well, we can't well keep him chained outside. I somehow doubt he'd enjoy it.

[ioudas]

No, no, he can find his way home. I'll bring him back a wine cooler and some cigarettes for being such a good boy.

(timcampy gives a small wiggle of his fat butt before nuzzling cross's face and zooming off home.)

Here's hoping he doesn't terrorize a hot dog truck.

[Hank watches him zip away with a wave, frowning a little.]

Is that a legitimate concern?

Once, he ate an entire date cart when we were in Morocco. I've never spent so much on something that didn't end me up flat on my back.

And you don't think it would be wiser to supervise his return?

[ioudas]

He'll be fine. Maybe.

[professorlionface]

I'm perfectly overwhelmed with confidence.

Timcampy usually takes care of me. He'll be just fine. (really, he wants something good to eat.) I'm thinking steak.

[professorlionface]

I imagine that makes you two quite the pair. [But the little guy's already gone, no point agonizing over it too much. Instead, he heads on down the path.]

But you're in luck, I know of a few decent places just a few blocks away. Finding a good steak in the City is never much of a challenge!

Perhaps we should do something challenging? Life is too short.

You want to see if we can find a good steak in New Jersey instead?

Will it end in adventure?

Probably! You can never tell with Jersey.

Is that quite common? I haven't been to the States in years.

Some parts more than others. The pioneering spirit has largely moved in different directions, but you can still count on a certain unpredictability in specific areas.

The North America branch did seem full of itself the last time I was there, but they're Canadians. You know how they get.

[professorlionface]

Canadians can be very troubling, yes. Though I suspect I'm familiar with it in different ways than you are.

Well, the Canadian I know at least tends to be a little rough.
