WARNINGS: Probably nothing?
SUMMARY: Max Lord introduces the newest member of the Avengers to the team: Black Panther! Everyone, get to know each other, this is for mingling of all sorts.
FORMAT: Quick.


[ It's not exactly a meeting; they can discuss pertinent issues (as always, Max has a whole agenda of topics to bring to the table) another time, because today, what Max wants to talk to the Avengers about is short and sweet. It's something to celebrate! Within their brand new Headquarters Max Lord stood in a brown suit and a checkered tie, a table laid out with food and drinks running the length of the wall to his side. ]

Now, I know we have a lot of Avengers business to discuss, especially since some of us were gone for most of the month. But that's not what we're here today for. But of course if you want to talk shop later I won't stop you.

I'd like to present you all with the newest addition to our team: please welcome Black Panther to the Avengers. I think we can all agree we had a few [ Er. ] holes to fill... and this is our guy. In fact, I think a few of you know each other already.

Oh, the floors up above and down below aren't completed yet. Most of it's done, but we've still got the climate systems and furnishing to finish. Another week, and things should be finished. When it's done, I'll give you the full tour.

[retconman]

I can't wait. [ He raises his eyebrow. ] Climate systems?

[liverletdie]

Be prepared for anything, of course. [ He waved a hand at the vents on the ceiling, pointing out the slim slats. ] Not just to help filter the air in case of something happening in the City, but any pheromones, airborne poisons, changes in air-pressure, and even cigar smoke can be handled. I like to cover my bases.

And, in the case of emergency, we can use the building as an emergency shelter.

[retconman]

Hm. Good thinking. [ Max squints at the slats and nods his approval. ] This place should be able to withstand most all kinds of disasters, natural or otherwise. Like a fortress. Besides, we have to account for enemies.

[liverletdie]

Max, I house some very sensitive R&D data here as well. Believe me, this place can handle a lot, I'm not a fan of wasted money or time, you know? [ Of course, he doesn't mention that it's all also stored in satellites, or that he's got a direct link to the systems in the building, all of them hooked directly into the brain. ]

I'd like to think we won't see enemies, but you know, I just have a feeling that something like that could come up, and I don't want to see either my building destroyed, or people caught in the rubble. I've taken this opportunity to do some retrofitting and reconstruction on some parts of the building in general.

[retconman]

[ Max shrugs, as if it's just a simple fact of life. ]

Where there are heroes, eventually there will be villains. The sturdier the better. At the same time, we're painting a target on ourselves that moves one off of civilians and other buildings. We're equipped for these things where others... less so.

[liverletdie]

Agreed. [ He turned to look out one of the high windows. ]

Honestly, that's the most important thing. I've got the funds to handle that kind of thing, most places don't, and I'd rather deal with them on the home front. We've got plenty of tricks here. Let's just say I'd hope for none, but I'm prepared for the worst.

[retconman]

We all hope for none, but we can't get blinded by the idea. If the Avengers are anything like the Justice League, we should be prepared for at least one incident per month. Obviously that's a high estimate, but it's a safe one.

[liverletdie]

Oh, I agree. At least one a month. Let's be honest, the City's a little prone to more than that at times.

[retconman]

At times. During rougher spells for sure, but that won't all be centered right on our headquarters.

[ Well. Presumably. ]

Not that we won't take care of it just the same.

[liverletdie]

Exactly. Hopefully with the right headquarters, we'll be better equipped to take care of the things away from our HQ too, huh?

[retconman]

It'll cut down on travel and coordination time, that's for sure. All we need is some more organization and we'll be all set.

[liverletdie]

Agreed. You have some ideas on that?

[retconman]

A few starting points. I'll need to fine-tune the details.

[liverletdie]

Oh? Willing to share, or is this a preliminary stage kind of thing?

[retconman]

Oh, I'll share with the entire team. Not today, though. I think we should let them all get to know their new teammate before we lay the business back on them.

[liverletdie]

[ A pause. Yeah, that socializing thing. ]

Of course, of course. It's probably for the best. I'm sure everyone needs time to adjust.

[retconman]

Maybe this weekend. [ He blows another line of smoke. ] Or next week, timing depending.

[liverletdie]

Well, you know how we Avengers like to stick to our timeframes, good thing you're giving us some wiggle room. [ The sarcasm is light, but it's definitely there. He says it with enough amusement to hint that he's joking. ]

[retconman]

I do always try to factor in the possibility of emergencies and catastrophes.

[liverletdie]

Good plan. We never know when that's going to throw a wrench in things. [ He pauses. ]

By the way, if you're looking for ways on that, I've got a few extra tricks here and there, so anything I can do to help, I'll offer it.

[retconman]

I'd expect nothing else. This is going to have to be a group effort to be in any way effective.

Do you have something you want to suggest?

[liverletdie]

I was thinking of putting together a little something for quick communication, actually. Foolishly, maybe, we've been relying on the network, and our private lines. It was mostly a cost-cutting measure on my part, but since we're going to hopefully have a couple ways to mitigate that, maybe it's time to bring that back on the table.

[retconman]

[ He smirks. ]

If we can equip all the Avengers with specialized direct-line communicators, we could even streamline future meetings to be via video-screen.

[liverletdie]

[ He smiles ] Now you're just encouraging me never to leave my workshop.
