WHO: Sally Blevins and Dani Moonstar
WHERE: Xavier Institute
WHEN: Tuesday afternoon
WARNINGS: Punching and kicking and fighting!
SUMMARY: Dani teaches Sally how to punch people in the face!
FORMAT: Quicklog
[Sally sways back and forth on the balls of her heels. She's a ball of nervous energy. Not that she doesn't know a little combat but her force field makes it easy to slip away from any situation on the street instead of waiting around to fight. But she wants to learn!]
Are we using weapons or just hand to hand?

I'd like to start hand to hand, just to get a better idea of your current strengths. You ready?
no subject
As ready as I'll ever be.
no subject
I'm not sure how flexible your fields are but if you can use them like gloves they might give you a little more force with your offensive. But let's see what you got first.
[With that Dani starts the spar, sending a fist toward her solar plexus.]
no subject
And this is the problem I have with combat. My force field flicks on whenever I'm in danger. Except for apparently when I'm around Domino.
no subject
What do you mean by when you're around Domino?
no subject
Well she's the only one who's ever been able to keep a grip on me when my shield is on.
no subject
Wait, do you mean she holds onto your shield somehow or gets around it quickly?
no subject
She manages to hold on. It was really annoying.
[She pushes back up and tries to land another kick. Except she doesn't quite have her balance and manages to topple forward.]
no subject
Dom's got talent and luck with that kind of thing.
[Dani stops to brace Sally as she topples a little.]
Okay, I want to keep going but you're missing part of the fight by reacting rather than trying to anticipate some movement.
no subject
I think most of my problem with fighting is that I react a lot more than anticipate.

[Dani steps from side to side, working to keep muscles loose.]
Want to try another round? I'm not going to make this one easier.
no subject
[She demonstrates and lets the energy spiral outward. It hits a pile of bricks and Sally quickly extends her shield around the two of them.]
But I've really got to concentrate to make it happen. And another round sounds good.
no subject
Impressive. Okay, so we should work on building the stamina too. [She nods.] You should break that out more in team practices.
[Dani turns to face Sally, gearing up a little more. She jumps towards Sally's right.]
no subject
I started taking dance. I think that's supposed to help with stamina?
no subject
Sure does. Where are you studying?
no subject
Over at [name of place] with Ryan. Muscles I never knew I had ached after my first session.
no subject
Try and push back with the shield. Think you can control the blast?
I used to take dance lessons when I first started studying with Professor X. They could be brutal from what I remember.
no subject
I'm not too sure about the blasts. I'm better at aiming than I was when I first started.
I did gymnastics as a kid but it's been years since I stepped foot on a balance beam.
no subject
Aim's a good thing to have but I think for your power you should work on the response level. Sam got you to the blasts, the key to using them in a fight is refining them for every level of combat.
[A thought occurs to her.]
Your shield only holds back physical attacks right?

[Sally pushes her shield into place and watches Dani, waiting.]

[calls up a staff and throws it to Sally]
no subject
This could be tricky. There was a time I could barely hold onto any food I was eating, Dani.
no subject
You have decent reactions so that means you have good sense about how your own body moves. To get you to react offensively you have to use things outside your own body, things that are a little harder to control.
