[Kenzi has spent the week beforehand getting everything ready for Sunday. So by the time the day rolls around the kitchen counters are laden with various party foods. Bowls of chips and dip, a vegetable plate for anyone that wants something healthy, cookies...just the usual stuff. As far as drinks go Kenzi has a big ice chest waiting for any drinks anyone brings. She's provided some beers and sodas, there's also some bottled water and juice in there. Anything else is up to those coming.

All the hard stuff has been hidden as Kenzi doesn't plan on sharing. But there are some jello shots that might have just a bit too much vodka in them in the fridge.

Kenzi takes one last look over everything to make sure it's all ready before flopping down on the couch to wait. She didn't give a specific time for people to drop by, which now that she thinks about it she probably should have. Oh well. For now she'll just wait.]

[She pops another chip in her mouth as she gives him a curious look.] Then what did you mean?

[invoking]

It doesn't affect you, the things that happen. You don't change. [ Maybe he's imagining it. It sort of reminds him of Oz, who stands unaffected by everything happening around them. (At least on the surface.) ]

I dunno if that's true. I just...try not to dwell on it too long. We can't change the past, only the future.

[Kenzi appears to be a lot of things on the surface, mostly shallow, but that's not the truth at all.]

[invoking]

[ He looks toward the other buildings, the street lights below, the people weaving in and out of the streets from all over. ]

... If you had the power, would you?

I don't think so. There's a lot of shit I would like to redo, change, whatever, but it could really fuck up the present and future.

Now, if I knew what I did in the past wouldn't drastically change the future or make it worse? ...I probably would.

[invoking]

It's something a chain may propose to a potential contractor. When someone is that desperate... [ The chain will take advantage of it.

Break wanted to change the past and he did somehow. No, not him-- the Intention of the Abyss. (Or Will, fucking translations.)

But the results had been almost the same regardless. ]

Yeah...there's not really anything that's happened to me that I'm desperate enough to change.

[invoking]

[ Not even with her parents? He wonders... but he keeps it to himself.

He looks at his mostly finished cigarette and takes one last drag. ]

We should get back inside before we catch a cold.

[wisecracked]

[Not even with them. Sure it sucked but it made her stronger.]

Yeah. [Kenzi rises and does a little jig as the cold air hits the warmest parts of her. She then makes a rush for the door.]

[ He smiles a little at that. He knew she'd feel cold at some point and once they're inside, he'll pull the door shut behind. He can already feel the difference from standing outside so long that the house feels much warmer than it did before. He shudders naturally, but carefully not to drop the cigarette. ]

That football game was strange, but it was a nice night. [ In other words, he's glad he got invited in the end. He knows he should be more open to going anywhere.

It's just... difficult. ]

[wisecracked]

Brrrrrrr. [Kenzi shudders and tucks the bowl of chips under one arm so she can use the other to rub the cold out of her legs.]

Yeah, I guess it can be weird if you've never watched it before. I could only imagine what you'd think of hockey. [She grins up at him as she straightens back up.]

But I'm glad you came and enjoyed it.

[invoking]

Hockey? That sport on the ice... yes? [ He also holds up the finished cigarette, wondering where he can throw it. ]

They put on a whole performance for these sports events, though? [ WHAT IS BEYONCE AND DESTINY'S CHILD?? Wow, she was... provocative it made him uncomfortable. ]

[wisecracked]

Yeah. Like soccor and football but on ice. [She eyes the cigarette before motioning him to follow her into the kitchen where she pulls out the trash.]

Not all sports events. Just the really big ones like the Superbowl. Normal games aren't going to have those kinds of halftime shows.

[invoking]

Why the Superbowl only?

[wisecracked]

Because it's a big event. [She kicks the trash bin back under the sink and closes the cabinet door.]

It's a game that only happens once a year that pits only two teams against each other. They work all year long just to be one of two teams playing.

[invoking]

[ PRETENDING HE ALREADY THREW OUT THE PUT OUT CIGARETTE... wow me... ]

Did the team you cheer for win?

[ITS OKAY I GOT YOU

Kenzi scowls and turns to get a jello shot out of the fridge.]

No. Useless son's of... [She trails off into curses in Russian under her breath.]

[invoking]

[ His expression falls quickly. ]

Kenzi...?

[wisecracked]

[Kenzi stops long enough to slurp down the shot then look over at Gil.]

What?

[invoking]

So it was the other team, wasn't it... [ Today's lesson: Americans care a lot about football. ]

[wisecracked]

[Growling:] Yes.

[invoking]

Well, it's just a game. They'll play again next year, won't they?

[wisecracked]

[Kenzi twitches and crushes the little plastic cup in her hand.] Do you know how much money I lost on that game?
