James prides himself on managing to get a date out of almost any scenario, so getting Selina over for dinner just because of an original talk of grenades is a win in his books. Even if they are just doing the 'friend' thing, which he can't say he's too worried about.

He's managed to be alone in his apartment for the evening, spending the last hour or so cleaning himself up and changing into smart casual attire, because even at home James likes to be well presented to the ladies.

And so when Selina arrives, he's ready to buzz her and open his door invitingly.

Selina doesn't see it as a big deal, really. In a sense, it's even simpler than her frequent dinners with Slam were. Less baggage here. And James was good company when he wasn't being an ass.

"Evening," she told him when he answered the door. She'd dressed as casually as she ever did outside her own home (inside of course was another manner).

He waved her in before shutting the door behind them. It's a different apartment address from the last one and looks just as new and unlived in, apart from the selection of weaponry laying around the place in different stages of being dismantled. He's probably not been here for more than a week or two and he'll be moving on again soon.

Selina gets a quick once over with his gaze, naturally, because friendship means you can check each other out sometimes, "Can I get you a drink?"

"Sure." She's not checking out James though, her gaze fixed on the weapons instead. "Starting a war, are we?"

"One can never be too careful," he answers, heading over to the open kitchen in the corner and retrieving a bottle of white wine from the fridge, along with two glasses. "With all this talk recently, I thought I'd do best to be prepared. Just in case."

"Mmm." She paces through the apartment, examining the different guns. While it's rare that she uses them, she has handled a surprising variety of weapons in her day.

Her exploration turns up something else as well. Smirking she holds up a Hello Kitty plush that had been sitting on a side chair. "This isn't for me, is it?"

"That's uh-- no." There's a pause as he tries to think up an excuse for that, covering well with going over to the coffee table, shoving a few gun parts aside and pouring two glasses of wine, even with the temptation he has of snatching the plush from her. "Unless you want it, in which case; yes I got it just for you."

Selina picks up up her glass of wine, but doesn't put down the plush. "Don't tell me you've set your sights on the schoolgirl set." Her tone makes it exceptionally clear she's joking. "Pretty sure that's illegal, James."

"First necrophilia and now this. I can see you have a high opinion of what I get up to," he comments, only mildly amused as he drops onto the brand new yet comfortable sofa.

"If you must know, it's mine."

"Hmm..." She tosses the plush in his lap, tilting her head a bit as she examines the complete picture it makes. "Are you sure? It doesn't really suit you."

It doesn't stay in his lap long, as he's already moving to toss it onto the table in front of them. That's how much love he has for the thing. "I need to display my affection for cats in some way."

Selina takes a sip of wine. "Really." Her eyes remain focused on James' face, a slight expression of amusement barely softening the sharp gaze.

"You don't believe me." It's a matter-of-fact comment rather than a question, as he goes for his own wine while staring back at her with little more than a slightly entertained glint to his blue gaze.

"Nope." She grins and takes another sip. "So what are you hiding, Mr. Bond?"

"In general? A lot of money, cars, drugs and weaponry," he answers cooly, lounging back comfortably and far too aware he's not answering the real question posed.

She's still staring at him. Still prying. This is what happens with cats and curiosity, James. "Aren't we all."

He knows all about cats and their curiosity. Spies and their curiosity are very similar. "Mm, we all have our secrets."

She picks the plush back up, tosses it in the air and catches it one-handed. The weight feels okay, so it's doubtful he's hiding anything inside. "Some of us do a better job of hiding them than others."

"Perhaps it's not so much of a secret as a piece of information that seems pointless to share. I don't regularly keep you updated on the colour of my underwear, but that's not a secret." The plush now seems to have almost the entirety of his attention.

And the plush is tucked under her arm for safekeeping. "If it's so pointless, then why are you so afraid to share it?" she asked, toying with her wine glass.

The question is considered for a moment with a slow sip of wine. And then, "I'm not afraid to share it. It's just not something that would interest you."

"Consider me interested." Selina sets her glass down. Still cradling the plush, of course.

"Alright. Well, I currently have a friend staying. And I don't even mean 'friend'." His wine has already been finished off and he's depositing the empty glass on the table.

"Really." She glances at the plush, then back at James, her smile growing. "And how old is she?"

"... Does it matter?" He's just a little too defensive about this, really.

And that's really the main reason she keeps prying. "Of course it does."
