SUMMARY: Trying to stop thinking so much, Momiji starts wondering around the City.

Momiji had been spending his first few days in the City trying to wrap his mind around the concept of being stuck in this new reality. It hadn’t been going well. Thinking about it left him depressed and filled with questions about the future. The silence that filled his apartment wasn’t helping. Momiji had never really been alone. Sure, the houses on Sohma estate were usually quiet, but there had still been the background hum of human life. To keep himself from dwelling on his situation, Momiji had been busy acquiring a new wardrobe and decorating his room.

But there was only so much time he could dedicate to deciding between shades of pink and by Friday, Momiji running out of things to do. Determined not to spend his weekend worrying over something he couldn’t change, he rose early and with a game plan. He was going to explore the City and get familiar with the place he’d be calling home from now on. Mentally pumping himself, Momiji pulled on a sweater and strode out the door.

Bakura covered a small laugh. "Aaa, I don't know if I'd go that far! But everyone plays Duel Monsters, to the point where Kaiba-kun closed down most of Domino for a tournament that had so many people in it, it was full! And that was just the people that were good enough to join! And in the future, there are going to be schools for playing it and apparently it even replaces wars somehow!"

He still wasn't quite sure how that would even work. Especially if the Items were gone. But really, the longer he was in the City, the less he really cared about Domino and Duel Monsters.

"That's a lot of importance placed on a game." Momiji said, looking startled. Replaced wars? He supposed it was a much more peaceful solution to fighting. "I can't imagine going to school just to learn a game. But I guess it could be more fun then math."

"Un. Though I can sort of understand it to some point, with everything around it!" Bakura rubbed the back of his neck a little. "Since it's based on something that was real! And I don't know if I'd want to go to school for a game, it might start to be like work! And then what would you do to have fun?"

"Ah, so it's like a tradition." That made it seem a little less strange. If it was ingrained in their world's events, then it would make sense for people to think so highly of it. But really, who was he to judge? "That's true. If you have to do something then you lose your love of it."

"Maybe then people would turn to real school work for fun."

"Not really tradition, something old that was remade. Not that anyone really knows it was old!" Minus a select few who had a very close experience with the true nature of the game...

He covered a laugh. "Aaa, I can't see that ever happening!"

Momiji shot Bakura a slightly confused look. "But wouldn't someone have to know it was old to remake it?"

"Who knows? Maybe somewhere out there, people do calculations as their playtime. Instead of playing baseball, kids go to biology competitions."

"The person who remade the game found out about it!" Bakura pointed out with a smile. "And I guess with all the strange worlds out there, there could be one like that!"

"Ah, yes. I should have guessed that." He laughed, lightly bopping himself on the forehead. "Yeah, yeah. This place has made a lot of weird stuff seem likely!"

He skipped ahead slightly to look in a window as they passed, marveling at the trinkets inside. "This place has a lot more interesting shops them home." Momiji remarked, impressed.

"It really does!" Bakura agreed. "The first time you meet someone who was your hero from a movie it really hits you!"

"And there really are a lot of neat shops. We can stop if you'd like!"

Momiji paused, eyes wide. He hadn't thought about that. "That would be really cool! I wouldn't know what to say."

Momiji rubbed the back of his head. "No, no, sorry. We can keep going, I'm just easily distracted." He laughed.

"I didn't either! But now we're really close and a lot of the time I forget that he's someone famous like that," Bakura smiled happily. "This place is really incredible that way."

He covered a small laugh. "It's all right if you do want to stop, I don't mind!" he assured.

"Eh, I guess they're just normal people. And they wouldn't know they were famous to us." He reasoned, smiling.

"Eh, it's okay. I'll just end up buying silly stuff anyway." Rather Momiji would buy every cutesy looking object that caught his eye.

Bakura nodded. "Un. Though some of them are still pretty fantastic."

There may have been a little bit of a fanboy sparkle. Someone is still so psyched about getting to train to be a Jedi.

"As long as you don't buy too much, a few silly things are all right," he pointed out, swinging the bag with his TRPG supplies a little.

Momiji laughed. "Ah, I'm going to keep an eye out for famous people."

Fanboy sparkles are just fine here, Bakura. Momiji would end up doing something similar.

"Hehe, yeah. But my room back home was covered in silly things. I don't want to go overboard here too." Which he would before long. Momiji's room was destined to look like a ten year old girl's fantasy. "Eh, what's that?" He asked, pointing to the bag.

"Maybe I'll introduce you to one," Bakura grinned impishly before looking at his bag. "Aaa, I got somethings for a building I'm working on for my TRPG!"

One semester of architecture and he was already building a new set. Truth was, he just enjoyed the building almost as much as the playing! There was just something so satisfying about the process!

And besides, then he could bring it in to Kaiba's team and they could reproduce it for the game.

"That's be neat." He smiled back in response. " A building. That's cool."

"Is it hard?" He asked. If it was for a table, Momiji bet it was small. Which, he reasoned, would be hard to work with.

"I don't think so," Bakura smiled. "But I've been doing this for a long time now, even before I was in the City! So I'm not the best person to ask if it's hard or not."

"Hmmm." Momiji took a moment to muse, still skipping. "If you've been doing it a long time, I bet you're good."

Momiji thought briefly on his own hobby. Prehaps he should start back up again here.

Bakura rubbed the back of his neck selfconsciously. "Aaa- just because of practice!"

It was as close as he would come to accepting the compliment. Though really, he was rather proud of his boards.

"It's still good." He laughed. "Practice makes perfect!"

Momiji looked around, still grinning. "Is the arcade close now?"

"Un! About a half a block still!" Bakura nodded. "One thing with living here, you get your exercise!" he laughed.

Though really, most people took cabs but Bakura wasn't about to do that unless it was a dire situation. Like having been stuffed in a hotel for 4 days.

"Exercise is good for you!" Momiji didn't really mind the walk. He never used a car much anyway. "I like walking around anyway. You get to see lots of interesting things."

"Un! Though the subway's a big help, with how big this place is!" Bakura nodded.

It was a very rare instance where Bakura would get into a car.

Momiji grinned. "I've never used a subway before. Back home wasn't nearly big enough. This place has got everything." Well, except for the people he knew, but Momiji wasn't thinking about that right now.

That would change soon enough! (and already had, now hadn't it?)

"It really does!" Bakura grinned, holding open the door to the arcade for Momiji. "What sort of game did you want to play first?"
