[Kenzi's morning started off kind of shitty but she had no one to blame but herself. She drank waaaaaay too much the night before and was paying with it come early afternoon with a massive hang over. So she spent the first few hours trying to deal with that.

Eventually she felt well enough to get dressed and go out but what was she going to do while out? Other than get some delicious greasy food in her stomach, of course.

While she ate she though about what to do and eventually she decided she hadn't bugged Gil in a while. Once she was done with her meal she made her way to his place, it was too cold to just fly up to his window and wait so surprisingly she's at the door. Banging on it. If Gil doesn't answer quickly enough she'll start yelling as well.]

[ Maybe she doesn't care. He follows behind her quietly, awkwardly. ]

[Luckily the place is open and not very busy. In a short time they have a booth and menus.]

Order whatever you want, I'll pay. And...sorry. I was just curious.

[ Even as he takes a seat, he still feels relatively annoyed she had to drag Oz into this. He's never taken it well to have his master's name used against him. Or what he feels is. ]

You don't have to. I'm... [ sorry too? ]

It's... [ no, she said she was dropping it. But wouldn't an explanation be fair? ] Do you want to know?

It's an apology dude, might not have to but I'm going to.

[She looks up from her menu and raises a brow.] Only if you're actually wanting to talk about it.

It would only be fair, would it not? [ He doesn't meet her eyes, though-- worried he's ruined their outing and that her gaze will convey dismay. ]

Things back in my world haven't been... simple.

[Her gaze remains focused on him for a few moments before she turns her attention back to the menu. Although she's definitely still listening.]

I don't think things are simple for anyone.

[ He hasn't so much as touched his menu yet. His appetite seemingly forgotten or gone for the moment. ]

Have I told you already about chains? And contractors?

[Kenzi glances up with a nod.]

Yeah.

... Oz is an illegal contractor. [ There's so much more to it, but gradually. ]

[She slowly lowers her menu.] And Bo's an unaligned Fae. What's your point?

[ Snapping: ] It means he doesn't have much time before the incuse on his chest makes a full round and he's dragged into the deepest level of the Abyss!

People don't come back out of the Abyss [ REGULARLY... ] in my world once they've been dragged in!

[Kenzi's eyes go wide and she frowns as she holds her hands up.] Okay, sorry dude. But what the hell is an incuse?

[ His throat is dry and he can feel his heart pounding in his ears. His temple stings-- everything feels hot again. He leans back for a moment. Stay calm.

It's not her fault she doesn't know. Even if he thinks she can be more concerned about all this, but-- maybe she doesn't understand. ]

It's... a seal. [ He says quietly, exhaling slowly. His shoulders fall. Then he lifts a finger to trace a circle on the table to indicate what the seal generally looks like. ] It's like a clock; it has a hand that moves forward when the chain's power is used.

[ Gingerly, he reaches to his collar and pulls his own Blood Seal Mirror out-- the scar on his neck visible for those brief seconds. He holds it up so Kenzi can see the incuse on the necklace. Only there's no hand. ] Somewhat similar to this.

[She nods as he explains, focused more on him now than the prospect of a meal.

The scar actually goes unnoticed as he pulls out the necklace.]

And when the hands go all the way around it's game over. Bummer. [She sits back in her seat with a frown. Before looking up at him.] That really sucks, dude. And I'm not like, being insincere about it.]

[ He grips the chain in his hand. It doesn't really matter to him that time is "frozen"; he needs to get back home as soon as he can to help the others. ]

Right before I found myself back in this world, we were attacked by-- by my brother's servant. [ A beat. ] Former servant, I suppose.

It all happened too fast. I'm sure Raven shielded us, but... [ He worries regardless. ]

[She leans forward and reaches over to pat his hand.]

Gil, dude, they're fine. I know you already know this but you return to the exact moment you left. Worrying about it is kind of...pointless.

[She sits back and picks up her menu again.] You should try to enjoy the time you have here. Go crazy and do what you want. You won't remember any of it when you go home.

[ He looks at her hand on his. It's so easy to say he shouldn't worry, but there's no stopping it. ]

I've been through this already. [ Ten years without Oz. He knows he can never repeat that. ] If I wanted, I could have thrown this life away when the Nightray dukedom adopted me.

[ This is the life he's chosen. ]

You didn't see the video that Habit person made, did you?

A'ight. [She shrugs, not looking up from the menu until he mentioned the Habit video.]

I...yeah. I saw some of it. I couldn't really stomach much more than a little. Shit was brutal.

[ He pulls his menu closer, though he's still not very hungry anymore. ]

The girl I killed didn't come back. [ EXCEPT she did and he wasn't aware until later this month. :( ]

...That means she went home, right? [Because people don't stay dead here. That was the deal. If that changes...okay Kenzi change your train of thought before you panic.

The menu! She's just going to focus on the menu again.]

I don't know.

[ He can only hope. ]

The Sentry never came back either.

[She's never going to figure out what she wants to eat.]

He was one of the superheroes here. Something happened to him in September... he attacked the City. [ Oh.

He stops then, realizing he's really ruining everything. ]

... Sorry. I should-- [ shut up at this point. ]

Oh...him. [Kenzi pales for a moment as she remembers her little run in with him.] He uh...he probably went home too.

[She turns back to her menu just as the waitress comes over to take their order.] I haven't decided yet but I'll have a Coke.

Just water. [ He does feel parched.

But he's watching Kenzi curiously. He's... certain some of the colour from her face faded just before. When the waitress is out of earshot, he asks: ] I'm sorry. I'm bringing up such heavy subjects.
