[As promised Kenzi arrives at the restaurant a little before seven (like five before); which is a feat given how often she's usually late. Since it would be out of place at this restaurant she hasn't gone all out on the dress up and hasn't overdone it with some stylish hairdo, just simple large loose curls. Simple yet stylish.

After coming through the door she quickly locates Gil and makes an attempt to sneak up on him. Although if he had any sense he would have been keeping his eyes on the door.]

How long have you been here?

[ He hopes her boss will pay for any damages done tonight... but he would prefer nothing of the sort happen.

He finally cracks open the menu to look at the list as the server makes her round again. ]

... I'll have the veal chop. With the grilled broccoli, thanks. [ And he hands back the menu to the woman. ]

[wisecracked]

[Kenzi glances over her menu one more time before handing it over.] Parmesan encrusted pork loin and loaded mashed potatoes, for me.

[Once the woman's gone she decides to try the mushrooms. Luckily they're much better than the calamari.]

[ This got awkward and fast. He looks at everything but Kenzi, though he's not paying much attention to the details of the building, the uniforms of the waiters, or anything. He's just trying to distract himself. ]

Uh...

[wisecracked]

[This was what Kenzi was trying to avoid, but go figure she'd manage to make it happen. She was beginning to wonder why she ever bothered with this date. She could have just not told Gil about the offer and told Xanatos that Gil wasn't up for it. But no...she wanted to try and give Gil a nice evening. Maybe a chance to relax.

But she's screwed that up.

She downs some more wine before going back to the shrimp. She doesn't even look at him as she addresses him.]

Hmm?

[invoking]

[ He's trying to keep an eye on how much wine she's drinking tonight, since she's his responsibility now.

He clears his throat. ]

Are you alright...?

[wisecracked]

[She hasn't quite finished the glass yet, but it's close. For now she leaves it as is, doesn't bother to refill, and turns to drinking her water for now.]

Yeah, fine.

[ Something is definitely wrong. Was he too harsh? ]

[ Even if what she did was wrong, he doesn't want to upset her... ]

[She turns her water glass around a few times before finally looking over at Gil.]

I just wanted tonight to be good and I've already ruined it.

[invoking]

What? [ Gil's floored by that response in particular, because he doesn't consider this night ruined at all -- merely off to an awkward start. ] You didn't ruin anything.

[wisecracked]

[Kenzi remains silent for a few moments, simply blinking at him as if what he said didn't quite sink in.] Really? [She perks up a bit.]

[invoking]

Yes, really. [ He shakes his head. ] You aren't going to do that again, are you?

[wisecracked]

I won't do it again. I don't want tonight to be terrible.

[invoking]

We still haven't had our dinner yet. It should be ready in a bit. [ He forces a bit of a smile. ]

[wisecracked]

[She nods before taking a drink of water.] Yeah.

So you never answered my question about liking shrimp or not.

[invoking]

Oh -- [ He looks at the table automatically and shrugs lightly. ] It's alright. I don't really... eat at places like this often. And shrimp can be expensive...

[wisecracked]

[She pushes the dish toward him.] Go ahead, I'm not gonna eat them all.

[invoking]

[ He lifts up a fork and pokes into one to take a bite. After a few seconds of chewing, he nods and swallows. ]

The texture is great -- and it's not even overcooked.

[wisecracked]

[She watches him, nodding once he's done.] I don't get shrimp often but this is probably the best I've had. The smoked mushrooms are good too. The calamari on the other hand... [She eyes the plate with contempt.]

[invoking]

[ He makes a face. ]

Right... don't eat that again. [ He's not going to try it himself either.

But since he doesn't want to talk too much about that, he decides to go back to one of the earlier topics since it did catch his interest. ]

So you've always liked ballet? [ Now that he thinks about it, she is tiny and presumably light enough for that dance. ]

[wisecracked]

Don't plan on it. [She decides to place her napkin over the calamari dish so she's not even tempted.]

Yeah. When I was little I used to dream of becoming a world famous dancer. I used to wear a tutu all the time, it was near impossible to get me to take it off. [She laughs softly at that.] It was my mother that made me start but it turned out I really loved it.

[ He listens, kind of surprised to even hear this from her. ]

You wouldn't continue something like that here?

[wisecracked]

Well after running away I didn't really have the money to keep doing it. And now that I live with Bo I don't really have the time. [That's a lie, they aren't near as busy as they could be.]

[invoking]

[ That makes sense. In retrospect, that was a silly question. ]

Sorry to hear. Having to give up something you enjoy... [ Can't have been easy. ]

[She shrugs as she chews on some more shrimp.] Eh, doesn't matter now.
